What travellers are saying
- linskitoursHarpenden, UK588 contributionsYou can easily spend half a day on this site. Parking is easy. After admission you walk gradually up toward the castle with various other sites en route including a museum and chapel. A lot of work was going on in May with noisy music from builders distracting us, but the climb to the top of the tower is well worthwhile for the views; there is good signage all across the site. Then you can do extensive hikes in the grounds including down to the river if you have the energy.
We enjoyed the history and pictures of the Latvian summer festivals that have been held there over many years. But as visitors to nearby Estonia it is the rolling hills and valleys that strike one; never think Latvia is all open and flat like most of Estonia. The section to the left of the entrance that sets out to portray agricultural life from 100 or more years ago is rather ordinary.Written 12 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The flights are divided then in 2 parts, 2mins at first, after a pause the other 2 mins. The first 2 mins are to get the feeling of the right position needed, in the second 2 mins you can already fly higher if you learn from your mistakes of your first 2mins and seeing other people flying. Enjoy!Written 8 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Beatriz MDüsseldorf, Germany5,710 contributionsPrior to visiting I had already informed myself and could adjust my expectations. I knew the old ruins were rather small and not accessible. You can take photos from outside. I know that paying the entrance would be more for seeing the views of Turaida Castle and the forest from the viewing tower in the location. Therefore the small entrance fee was ok. If they would increase the price then I would not recommend it anymore.Written 15 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - daveashukBristol, UK701 contributionsReally good tourist information, spoke with young woman, with excellent English skills, who discussed our plans, time left in town and gave us a good recommendation and timetable and price for minibus to Turaida castle, Gutmans cave on walk back and new and old Sigulda castles and return train times to Riga. Train good value €4.10 day return from Riga, about 75 minutes.Written 18 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GraftarianSouthampton, UK114 contributionsWe took a return ticket on the cable car to have a look at the nearby cave. The cost for a return was €18 which felt anout right. The cable car takes up to 14 people at a time and takes around 8 minutes each way. There’s a bice view of the river in the middle of the trip. Worth a look if you’re in Sigulda.Written 21 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Veronica VHelsinki, Finland58 contributionsThis church has the silence you need in between. It´s a miracle that the church of Latvia has survived communism!Written 5 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - daveashukBristol, UK701 contributionsSmall fun set of statues in park near to Sigulda new castle, all about 1-2 ft high. - MARIS ZSigulda, Latvia434 contributionsA great serpentine for leisurely walks, if the nearby stairs to the ruins of Krimulda castle seems to be too steep.Written 22 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Beatriz MDüsseldorf, Germany5,710 contributionsThe cave is a bit underwhelming. It is the widest cave in the Baltics, I think, but for people who have travelled a bit around the world and took tours in caves in which you can actually walk in, this will be nothing. But anyway, if it is on your way, you can take some photos. I visited it because it is a 20 min walk from the cable car station and on the way to Turaida castle so I would pass by it anyway on foot. From the cave to Turaida it is 30 min walk. The writings in the cave are from 18th century according to info I had. This can be something interesting.Written 15 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Katrien SGhent, Belgium1,982 contributionsThis is a Lutheran church, so little decorations inside. However, it is outside and inside an elegant wooden church, and well worth a short visit inside on your way to or back from the ruined castle.Written 9 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MARIS ZSigulda, Latvia434 contributionsThe largest sandstone cliff on the banks of the Gauja River, which can be seen near Sigulda. The Devils cave is not really accessible, but it can be viewed on both sides of the river and from the nearby bridge.Written 22 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JezbrVilnius, Lithuania52 contributionsWe hiked 30km through and around the river. With 1500 other people :D And some dogs. It was so wonderful. Super beautiful, super cozy. Some great castles and bridges and stairs and views. We should have gone a few weeks earlier with all the leaves still up, but still. Is a great part of the world to walk and talk and look.Written 6 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
