What travellers are saying
- David MShrewsbury, UK78 contributionsSimply stunning. We stayed at Ayres Rock Resort for 3 nights and went on the Sacred Sites and Sunset Tour which I’ll probably review separately (both). There’s nothing more I can say about Uluru itself other than everyone should experience coming here at least once in their lifetime.Written 13 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tuurtje75Breda, The Netherlands1,668 contributionsVery impressive walk to the viewing point. Think the trail is even nicer as the basewalk Uluru We were to late on the day simply too hot for doing the whole trail. Think it closed after 11 and 36 degreesWritten 30 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Susan H3 contributionsI loved this hike. Taking in the underrated and less famous Kata Tjuṯa the Valey of the Winds was a great hike.
The indication is 3-4hrs for the approx 7.4km and there are parts that are graded 4 and steep. The suggestion is you should have a certain level of fitness to undertake this.
I would definitely say that you need to bear in mind the impact heat will have on your fitness ability.
As with all things though fitness level & degree of difficulty are all subjective & relative to your experience.
There definitely are steep parts and my tracker brought the hike in at just under 7km. The heat does add a layer as I mentioned but that’s why I did the sunrise hike and followed the Hop On/Off drivers suggestion to take the right fork and get the steeper stuff done in the coolest part of the day. I did it in Australia’s summer so peak heat and it was indeed already 38 degrees by 8am.
There is a point near the first lookout where the track is closed once the temperature gets above 36 degrees so if you’re not beyond it by then you can’t carry on.
They indicate you should consume 1 litre of water for every hour you hike. I personally did not manage this but kept hydrated throughout. There are two points where you can refill your water on the route.
I carried sunscreen, hat, fly net, extra layer in case I was getting burned.
I wore shorts, trail shoes, tank top, headband & sunglasses. I was lucky that the flies weren’t too bad so didn’t need the pesky fly net. I had a backpack but just a day pack and kept it as light as I could within the safety indications as I didn’t want extra weight to add to the heat.
Hope you enjoy this hike as much as I did!Written 9 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Nikolett N2 contributionsIt was a free guided tour, started at 8:00 am.
The size of our group was ideal to this walk.
Our guide was a really nice indigenous man, who shared all his knowledge with us. We could ask questions and got the answers about his culture. The tour ended around 10:00 am. We were surprised that a tour like this is available for free.
We highly recommend this tour.Written 27 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - rob27898Port Kennedy, Australia389 contributionsNow this is a jaunt- harder and further than I expected and I was in boots. Some people passed us in trainers!
It’s fairly ok under foot unless it rains, then it’s a hold-onto-anything situation.
There are several metal walkways and steps to aid the traversing the rocks, but 99 percent of just you and the slope.
Well worth a visit, if only for the valley view behind you and the ensuing storms you can watch.Written 18 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We had the ticket that gave you bubbles and canapés which was worth it as a lovely experience. We waited till dark and then led down to the lights area. It all looked very much the same but once I took photos you could see how many colours there were.Written 13 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jessica DTecoma, Australia16 contributionsThe artwork in this gallery was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. What a special place to visit. How lucky we were to be welcomed onto Country and to have artists willing to share their stories.Written 31 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ann TPascoe Vale, Australia1,443 contributionsAfter the Lungkata walk around part of Uluru, we did the Liru walk to the Cultural Centre and it's well worth a visit. As well as have a little cafe (useful after a long, hot walk), it has 2 galleries with a great range of locally made work. I particularly liked the carved snakes. Aparently they also offer free presentations by Anangu and park rangers. We didn't get to experience those but worth checking out.Written 3 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mittagongprintMittagong, Australia63 contributionsI did the complete circuit walk - in both directions. Things look different when seen from the opposite direction. Can't recommend it highly enough. The walk is flat and easy but is about 10km so you need a reasonable level of fitness. Sometimes you are walking right next to the rock so you can actually feel it and at other time you are a few 100metres away so you can see all of it. There are a few no photo sections. There is only on toilet on the circuit so be prepared. Take plenty of water but there is an emergency supply if need.Written 12 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
