- TedperlNew York City, NY26 contributionsA bit of a climb, but well worth it for the panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. On a clear day, you can see half the province.Written 9 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Colin R13 contributionsFascinating collection of artefacts and photos from the Don Camillo films. Many of the information panels are in English, French and German as well as Italian.
The €6 ticket also includes two other museums in the village.
For anyone looking for Don Camillo-related souvenirs, the gift shop has a larger range and at better prices than elsewhere in the village.Written 16 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A place not to be missed when you first visit Reggio as it is located on the central Via Emilia and it offers a window into the very soul of our little town.Written 20 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jane WLivingston, UK447 contributionsWe took the train from here to Bologna. It’s a very efficient service if you know what to do and where to stand. I recommend buying tickets in advance as there’s no one around to ask for help!Written 2 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - James HBend, OR76 contributionsA hidden gem in Regio Emelia. The ceilings are incredible! Unlike many historic and beautiful Italian churches there was no fee to go inside. We did leave a donation!Written 1 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Livio GProvince of Reggio Emilia, Italy157 contributionsBeing from Reggio Emilia it is difficult to be objective when it comes to speak about one of the most iconic building of my town. Having said that, I am sure that everybody would be impressed by the beauty of one of the most beautiful Opera houses in the whole world.
Not only is it a landmark, but also a a real temple of culture (opera, classic and modern music, ballet, etc.) and an architectural wonder in the heart of Reggio.
Coming to Reggio Emilia and not visiting the Theatre, eating the delicious (as well as fattening) food and not enjoying the quality of life of the town and its surroundings would be both a crime and a sin.
If one doesn't want to (or can't) see a concert, a ballet or a play, one can still visit the Theatre. It has the novelty of being built into a shopping centre, which is certainly a first for me, in Italy anyway.
Home to both Reggiana, the actual team of Reggio Emilio, and Sassuolo, who have been groundsharing since their ascension to Serie A, it was the former I went to see in a Serie C clash as they try to work themselves back up through the ranks after their disastrous American ownership incident. €20 secured me a ticket in the more expensive Tribuna stand, so I imagine the Curvas are even cheaper.
Being attached to the shopping centre does provide a decent advantage to a lot of stadiums in the country in that there is at least a variety of eating outlets you can visit pregame, although there is also a decent van outside the stadium selling hotdogs and the like. I’d definitely recommend eating before you go in though. Not that the stadium is anywhere near the worst catered I’ve encountered in Italy, they did at least stock ham sandwiches in addition to crisps and drinks. But I feel you’re better outside.
Inside the ground it’s rather exposed to the cold, but otherwise actually a fairly nice modern stadium. Seats sturdy and well maintained, clean and presentable. Although I’m somewhat confused as to why they chose blue and white seats given neither team who plays there wears anything resembling these colours. The views all seem good and unobstructed, but my only complaint is that in addition to how cold it gets, even behind the stand, a lot of the seating isn’t actually protected from rainfall despite the roof.
It’s a solid match day experience though, fairly priced tickets, decent prematch eating options, a good stadium and a decent atmosphere. The ground holds just over 21,000 spectators, and I wouldn’t expect it to ever come close to full for Reggiana, but their fans are still a liveley bunch. Looking at Sassuolo’s average attendance it doesn’t seem like you’d struggle to get a ticket for them either.
I wouldn’t place this near the top of my favourite Italian stadia, but I also don’t have many complaints. Probably not going out of your way for, but I wouldn’t recommend against it if in the area.Written 20 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - physicsgeekBeavercreek, OH208 contributionsWorth visiting when in Reggio Emilia. The birth of the Italian colors and pattern to its flag occurred here. - diti78Auckland, New Zealand9 contributionsAs part of an educational Study Tour to Reggio Emilia we visited this small museum with the participants. From the bravery of one family in 1940's Italy, we learnt what underpins education and understood "the desire for a different sort of citizenship". A stunning little museum!Written 7 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- travellerukDerbyshire554 contributionsWhen we on our balsamic vinegar tour our guide talked about Canossa castle and the history of Matilda. We figured it was worth driving out to and taking a look.
We parked in the car park at the bottom of the hill and began climbing the steps. The view was beautiful and there was barely anyone around.
We purchased our tickets in a little shop across from the gates. We saw the statue of Matilda and then made our way further up the hill.
I know there isn't much left of the castle but it was beautiful to see. They are doing so much work on the hill to make sure it's all kept in good condition. Some areas were out of bounds due to the work they are doing. It wasn't until we left we realised people were hanging down and working on the rock on the hill to keep it stable.
There is a little museum at the top, not much of it is in english. There was a very sweet lady in there who couldn't speak english but we managed to get some of what she was saying.
We really enjoyed our visit and the views are just stunning.Written 28 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
