PLEASE at least inside the museum where the tools of different trades are beautifully displayed PLEASE again a description in English is very appreciated i think after all these reviews begging for English something could be done the place is lots of fun and educational worth the visit but again it could be GREATER if at least we could read the description

Le Chateau de Foix is a ‘must visit’ experience. It sits in a commanding position above the town, which has interesting mediaeval origins. As you walk around, it is clear why the Chateau was never sacked: invaders had no chance of scaling these walls. The Chateau itself is well worth a visit, as is climbing to the top of the towers for a stunning view of the Pyrenees and the rest of Foix, including the historic centre. Visits are enhanced by numerous demonstrations. My particular favourite was the one showing how heavy loads such as sone for building was hoisted to such a height. However there were also a range of others including arrow tip forging and weapons in use during the Middle Ages. These would be of particular interest to families.

The museum is adjacent to the chateau. During the Middle Ages, Foix occupied an important political role within the region and you can find out about the changing boundaries of the family, as well as the lineage of the Dukes who ruled for 400 years. I was particularly interested in the role played in relation to the Cathars and there is some interesting information about that, including a charter of rights to protect local people. Most of the information in the museum is in French but there is also a digital guide in other languages.

Beautiful, peaceful place! Even though it was high summer and the water was a trickle, it was a lovely cool place to visit. The water was freezing! Very refreshing to dip your feet in.

There were plenty of parking places and some tables in the shade for picnics.

You can visit the main fall, which is a short walk from the car park, though quite steep and rocky in parts. you can then climb to the top of the falls, though this is very steep and no guard rails at the top, so would not be suitable for younger children.

Parc de Bouychères is the first major landscaping project conducted by the town of Foix, located on the right bank of the Ariège river, and just a 10 minutes' walk to the center. Designed with people with reduced mobility in mind, it contains a footpath for walking, jogging, or biking. It is quite hilly, so there are secluded areas where you can enjoy peace and quiet, read or just listen. There is a play area for children, benches, and some tables, and thanks to the pedestrian footbridge spanning the river, the park is in direct continuity with all the sports facilities on the left bank. So, the setting provides a breath of fresh air near the city, with playground equipment including a zip wire and rope pyramids, petanque, and a picnic area. Foix is a non-touristy town within 70-80 mins of Toulouse, with many things interesting to see, and a sense of being "in" the Pyrennes mountains.

Worth a visit with children - this is a well run (with lifeguards) and clean pool complex in the centre of Foix with underground car park, although we found free on-street parking available nearby. At the time of our visit, the entrance fee included access to all the indoor and outdoor pool areas (a great separate area for small kids and a fun rapids style pool for age 10+), as well as free use of jacuzzi areas, sauna and steam room (hammam). Go early (it opened at 11am on the day of our visit), bag some sun lounges by the pool with a parasol if you can or chill out under the shade of trees on the lawn area. Bring some drinks and snacks/lunch, a book or two and your sun cream, and you'll have very pleasant afternoon out - you can easily spend 3-4 hours there, as we did! Note: If you plan to use the indoor pools/jacuzzi, use of swimming caps are mandatory (all locals including kids did wear them). Bring your own or you can buy them from the pool reception.

Office de turisme is located in the center of the town, just where the old and modern towns links. It si a very good tourist office, where you can obtain a lot of information of Foix, Ariège and surroundings. Coming here is a very good option, if you can visit the town.

I was staying in Foix for a month and found myself in a room without a chair. It seemed a shame to stay in such a magnificent medieval town and sit on a mattress, so I sought a solution. La Petite Brocante had caught my eye earlier with some of the fine things placed outside the shop for a day, so I stopped by and asked Alain if he could, perhaps, rent me a nice chair for the month. As it happened, he opened his store room and offered me a very broad selection of chairs (I chose a very striking one in chestnut that he identified as Restoration). We made a very agreeable arrangement, and as a result, I was seated far more respectably than I've previously experienced. The size of Alain's shop is balanced against his very discerning eye - there is no junk. If you're visiting Foix, I heartily recommend La Petite Brocante - a little shop (well, not really so little) of treasures. I didn't have a chance to take advantage of his wife's French program, or I would have gladly reviewed him in the appropriate language.
