We didn't get inside this impressive monastery but the building, which was originally the home of the Duke Giulio Tomasi di Lampedusa before he built another palazzo at the foot of the stairway that goes up to the Duomo, certainly adds to the scenic central piazza.

I had great hopes for this attraction, one of the palaces of the fascinating Tomasi di Lampedusa family. There are extraordinary carved wood ceilings to view. Some of the rooms have photos and displays about the family, including the famous author of "The Leopard." I had read that the town was turning the palazzo into a museum and I hope this is not the final result. A young man who works there spoke to me in rapid-fire Italian although I had told him he spoke too fast for me to comprehend. He led me on a personal tour, but I didn't understand much of what he said. What a shame. A brochure in English would have been nice. The stairway to his office (if there's another entrance, I couldn't find it) had the only chair lift I've seen at a public attraction in Sicily to provide access to those with mobility issues. I had to laugh because the presence of the chair lift left no room for a railing to help those who can walk up the stairs.

nice area, was a nice drive to get to it, zero tourists which I love and was able to fly my drone at free will. It was closed to visit.

Our visit to the caves was brilliant. We had a great English speaking guide who escorted us through the cave system for well over an hour and he explained all the formations etc.

It’s breathtaking underground and very safe because it has been engineered for visitors safety throughout.

    It’s well with the visit.

The piazza, complete with impressive white cathedral with twin bell-towers at the top of an immense monumental stairway, surrounded by noble buildings of the same period,is like a Hollywood stage set. It's almost too theatrical to be believable,a bit overdone. I kept waiting for someone to say "Cut!". A shame that the rest of the town gave the impression of being neglected and rundown because it has great possibilities.
