- Aellis837Tennessee230 contributionsWouldn’t necessarily go out of your way for this but if nearby this is a sweet park with trails, a small visitor center with a few animals and some historic buildings. I liked their audio guide easy to access on your own phone but it didn’t really give any more info than the plaques. I wish they’d set up signage by each building with the associated audio guide number. I had to keep going back to the 2 entrance area signs for that info.Written 4 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MarieInSarasotaLakewood Ranch, FL280 contributionsWhile staying in town for a weekend, I was looking for any murals that may be in the area. I discovered there was one called “There’s a seat for everyone in John’s Creek.” I found it on a wall of the rec building in this park. It was of a row of various chairs in a row and they were all very different.
I saw there was a trail here and was going to take a little walk when I discover a memorial area that the Johns Creek Veterans Association had created. What a wonderful surprise to see that part of it was a half size replica of the Vietnam Wall in Washington DC. There were also tall vertical slabs representing each of the US wars and a monument for the Unknown Soldier. It was very touching to walk around it. I’m so grateful for what the local Veterans Association had done.Written 29 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The trees are tall and thick and the road curves so that you almost feel like you are driving into the mountainside. I know that this is hard to believe if you live in Alpharetta, but trust me, you will understand when you drive in.
Parking is $5.
After you park, there will be a sign, which shows the trail with number markers. Since it was our first time there, we took a picture of the sign and agreed to stop at various number markers. What you need to know is that there are no number markers anywhere. We weren’t sure if the number markers were removed to be replaced, if they had all been stolen, or if they had all fallen off somewhere. To be safe, we hiked on the trail along the river, which was fine because the river was relatively calm and we could see the backs of some of (beautiful) houses across the river.
The trail is relatively flat with an occasional tree root that goes across the trail. If you encounter other people on the trail going the opposite way as you, everyone is very courteous and will stand aside so that you can walk by or vice versa. We plan to go back as soon as we can find someone that can guide us along the trail.Written 6 December 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CarmenCumming, GA4 contributionsThis gem in Johns Creek is a must-see for residents and visitors! It is a peaceful, well-designed memorial to walk through. This is a great place to bring your children and discuss our nation's history and how veterans and the military served (and continue to serve) this great nation! (FYI..... Out of respect, no pets allowed. Only service dogs.)Written 20 May 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gsamsam22Cumming, GA7 contributionsI saw this place on TripAdvisor and I simply HAD to see what it was about. It’s tucked not far into the woods along the Forest Trail at the Autrey Mill Nature Center you’ll barely have to hike before you see it. Lots of people who pass don’t know the story behind it, or why they’re there at all, because there’s not a sign or tour explaining what they are. With a little research, though, I found that the story goes like this; at some point around the turn of the century, a circus train derailed in the nearby town of Duluth, and a group of circus monkeys made their escape into the woods. Not knowing what in the world they were, local farmers shot them all dead within a few days time. At some point in the 60s or 70s, an anonymous artist wanted to put a monument to the massacre in the woods where it happened, with the message of “Just because it’s new and foreign doesn’t mean you should fear it.” A must see for lovers of odd history, and as an added bonus, the surrounding nature center has a lot of fun things to do as well!Written 29 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tandj222Atlanta, GA69 contributionsFun place to visit for kids. Stay and Play as long as you want for $12 per kid (adults free). Small enough you can enjoy the couches and watch your child play but still has many different play centers. Ball bin, jumpy pad, 4 story tall climbing structure w Mini tramp, slides and much more. Little imaginary play center w cottage, train table, grocery store, vet and diner. Also role play with chef, firemen and police officer outfits. Plus you can feel good about visiting knowing that this business is owned and operated by a local family with three kids! BRING SOCKS to avoid a sock fee....Written 8 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DanPanama City Beach, FL11,924 contributionsMy wife and I visited this 66 acre community park for the first time on Saturday. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed having a picnic lunch by the 4 acre lake. Afterwards we walked off the calories on the one mile nature trail that winds through the woods surrounding the park. There were tons of families here taking advantage of all the amenities which include:
1-A lake with a fishing dock
2-Three cricket batting cages
3-Three large multipurpose athletic fields one has a walking/jogging track around it
4-Ping pong table by the lake
5-Three covered pavilions with picnic tables some with grills
6-Multiple restrooms
7-Community room
8-Multiple kid’s playgrounds
For such a popular place the parking is extremely limited. Definitely family friendly & dog friendly. Safe & well maintained. Open daily at sunrise.Written 22 February 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's a well manicured range with an expansive putting green, bunkers and pitch and chip area. Very reasonably priced and an attractive place to work on your game.Written 9 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
