Salzburg Fortress (Festung Hohensalzburg)
#1 of 41 Museums in Salzburg
You get the best views of the old town from the fortress which also has numerous little museums inside as well, one excellent tour takes you through the stories of WW1 soldiers who were billeted at the fortress.
There's so much to see - museums, beautiful, opulent medieval apartments, puppet museum, military museum, ramparts, dungeons, towers and the most spectacular views.

Salzburg Museum

One of the best Museums in a two month trip!
I enjoyed learning more about the storied history of Salzburg, different classical instruments (and how they sound like) as well as the introspective exhibition about the museum’s complicity with the Nazi regime.

#9 of 41 Museums in Salzburg
Its a great place for the kids to go for a change from the museums and other historical places.
Versatile - you could try a lot yourself - perfect for children between 5 and 11 years - despite the many young visitors the museum is in a good condition overall.

Mozart's Birthplace

Insider tip: If you are planning to go to the Mozartwohnhaus in Salzburg's New Town (a 5 minute walk away) as well, there is a special reduced-price ticket for both museums.
Smaller museums like this are increasingly having to limit the amount of visitors allowed in during an hour (like the Chopin Museum in Warsaw) and I think they need to consider that here.
