- Daniel ASantana de Parnaiba, SP102 contributionsthe most unforgettable trip in the world, you can understand why so many films that take place on other planets are filmed in Iceland, wonderful landscapes, breathtaking roads with excellent paving, majestic waterfalls, geysers, sheep, lots of sheep, it has to be on your bucket listWritten 3 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Placeholder ONorthampton, UK34 contributionsThis was a really quirky museum! About half the space is dedicated to zoological specimens of animal genitals with the rest being the phallus across human history, art and in popular culture. There was also a small space dedicated to mythological penises which was hilarious. It took about 1h15m to walk around the whole museum and we were reading a lot. There is also a cafe with a wide selection of penis related literature and art books to flick through if you’re so inclined. All in all, a bit of fun and a chance to learn.Written 29 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - joekane80Bolton, CT54 contributionsSuch a cool museum jam packed with information and cool artifacts. You can try on the jackets and take photos. The last room has headphones hanging that play Icelandic punk music. Truly unique experienceWritten 18 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Rory TLondon, UK529 contributionsA very beautiful hike that is very close to Reykjavik. It's only around 10 to 15 mins outside of the city centre. Different levels of hikes to choose from.Written 19 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- VilleHelsinki, Finland15 contributionsWe visited the cave all by ourselves. The place is close to Reykjavik, and there is a small car park two minutes away from the cave. The path to the cave is very clear and simple. Getting in the cave is easy — but that is only where the adventure starts...
The cave does not look or feel like a tourist attraction, it is very close to its natural state. There are (very) few chain fences to protect some of the most fragile geological formations, and there is a (small and confusing) map on the wall near the entrance.
There are two recommended pieces of equipment: a good flashlight and a helmet. We had neither of those, only smartphone flashlights and no helmets. We learned that the recommendations are there for a reason...
The cave is a large one, it is almost a kilometer long. The entrance is somewhere in the middle of the cave, and there do not seem to be any decent maps of the cave available. In most places, it is possible to walk upright or almost upright (I am 6'1"/185 cm) but in some places all fours is the way to go. There are a lot of sharp corners where you may end up damaging the valuable geological formations by your forehead or back.
While there is a map on the wall, it does not necessarily help much. The entrance (and more importantly the exit) is slightly hidden in the wall of the tunnel. There are also some branches and forks, so it is possible to get lost in the tunnel. (Been there, done that, and the feeling is not the most pleasant one, as there may not be other people nearby.)
The tunnel itself is quite pleasant in its atmosphere. In the typical Icelandic summer weather (fog, rain, wind, +10 °C/50 °F) the tunnel felt calm and warm.
The lava tunnel itself is one of the most impressive natural formations I have visited. Definitely worth a visit if you happen to like caves and tunnels. You can feel like a speleologist in a safe environment, and you can visit the cave on your own.
Full five stars for that. But be wiser than us; take a good flashlight (3 W or more LED), spare batteries (powerbank, spare flashlight), and preferably a helmet (or a thick beanie or be very careful). If you want to be extra cautious, tell someone where you are going, there is no mobile network coverage in the cave. When you explore the cave, progress slowly and always look back to see how it looks from the other direction.
If you are claustrophobic, don't come too far from the exit (or stay in the fresh air). Kids (at least some kids) will love the cave, but as there are a lot of tight places in this playground, keep them near. I would not take kids under maybe five years of age into the cave.
(And, if all this sounds too frightening or complicated, book a group visit with a professional guide.)Written 30 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You need to have a real 4x4 to get there or take a scheduled bus. There are also super jeep trips available. I recommend taking an individual trip and spend some time hiking or stop where ever you like to enjoy the beautifull nature. There are camping places on a few spots.Written 22 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I rented equipment directly at Blafjoll and had my board on in less than 15min after arriving. The area has one main lift and also not a lot of slopes but going down a volcano with full view of the sea doesn’t get old fast. The atmosphere on the slope is very relaxed, everybody is driving respectfully and in general you feel like you are part of a big Icelandic skiing family.Written 8 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - fh_94Dundee, UK6 contributionsDid the lava tour on Feb 1st with my partner and we had the best time! I rode regularly when I was younger but only do it occasionally as an adult and my partner had only ridden twice ever, and we felt this tour catered well to both our levels. We were asked about our experience before being matched to our horses. My partner was given Harry Potter and unfortunately I can't remember my horse's name but she was very sweet and well natured. Two guides accompanied the tour and were excellent with talking less experienced participants through what to do, and took the time to tell us lots about their stables, the Icelandic horse breed and Iceland in general! It was also great of them to take the time to snap a few photos for everyone during the rest break. Despite the snow, rain and wind while we were out, this was the perfect way to take in the scenery. We would love to visit again in the future!Written 4 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- JetSetJUnited Kingdom81 contributionsWOW!
Turned up 30 minutes before our tour started to get kitted out with an immersion suit, lifevest, gloves etc…and then onto our RIB with our RIB pilot and our guide.
A fast and fabulous trip out to the whale watching spots where we first encountered a few pods of dolphins who played with the RIB and gave us all some experiences of photos of a lifetime.
At the back half of the trip we came across 2 pairs of humpback whales who were just chilling in the shallow waters, going to the occasional dive and then showering us with whale blow as they came right upto the side of the RIB in all their glory.
Just a beyond belief experience…why wouldn’t you do it?Written 10 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
