- I13JAmarymPalm Desert, CA2,681 contributionsWe started our research on visiting Iceland almost a year before we went. Hey Iceland was one of the companies contacted who responded immediately. We were very satisfied with the car rental arrangement and the hotels chosen. Their iPad routing was very effective and easy to use. We are talking about going back and would use Hey Iceland again.
Having said that- 1. It's hard to get specific information until you pay them a deposit. I do understand they are selling a product and don't want to give it away for free. As summer and the trip drew nearer and they got busier it was very difficult to get any response from them. I finally called and that was effective. 2. While we appreciated the iPad, while sitting in the airport in the rental car, we could not get it to work. We went back to the rental car company where fortunately one of the staff knew how to register it. We could find no directions anywhere that said "first, you must register the iPad." She was very helpful and informative, ensuring everyone felt comfortable on their horses and explaining the basics of riding and history of the horses. She also taught us the unique Icelandic pony gait. The ride was exciting, felt very safe, and was a relaxing break in our trip. Our guide was professional and fun and made all the difference. - BA2 contributionsFrom the initial contact all the way through, this company was great to deal with. Rebecca, in the office, was prompt to answer all questions and helped plan an itinerary that suited us. Our tour guide Agnes was amazing. She was friendly, funny, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She fit in perfectly with our family. Agnes made sure we were seeing everything we showed an interest in. Apart from the planned activities, she stopped for us to pat Icelandic horses, look inside caves and told tales about trolls along the way. She also organised great guides for tours we added on such as the ice cave tour. Christian, from David the Guide, was the most fantastic Northern Lights guide you could ask for. His passion for the phenomenon is second to none and he has even created his own app. He explained his vast knowledge, pointed out everywhere we needed to look and took amazing photos.
Booking a private tour for our group was great as it included pick up and drop off at the airport which was very welcome after a long flight and lost luggage. We saw all the sites and had the time we needed at each one without having to worry about planning and navigating. We trusted him with our lives! He knows Iceland history and regaled us with stories.
He cares about the people and his country. Those blue eyes and that smile welcomed us. He even woke upon at 4 am to take me to the airport! That is genuine kindness and commitment!
