What travellers are saying
- Tom JLondon, UK1,756 contributionsNeedless to say if you've been to Reykjavik...you've seen this church! The tallest building around it is not surprising it can be seen for miles! Really interesting architectural design paying homage to the basalt lava structures that can be witnessed in natural form across the country.
The church is easily accessible in the downtown area on foot, following the famous rainbow road up from Laugavegur. It also has a viewing platform for a magnificent vantage point over the city.
Well worth stopping by, even just from the outside as you won't see another church like it!Written 5 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Exterior panoramic views of Reykjavik, distant glaciers, and volcano mounds. Also went thru the Glacier visit which simulate the interior of glacier with ice sculptures and paths. Several other displays, well worth the entrance fee. Takes 2 - 3 hours. Free parking.Written 27 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 1234texasSeabrook, TX5,271 contributionsThe concert hall is something you can't miss in Rekiveck--it dominates the "skyline" of the city and stands alone on the waterfront. The shape is unique and the complexity of the windows mesmerizing, lt is tough to figure out how they were made and installed. They look as if the building is a gigantic honeycomb.
The inside is very modern and attractive with much open space. The restaurant on the first floor is quite good. The restrooms on the lower level are almost impossible for a rookie to figure out, even with a guest pass from the restaurant!
This is the location for the bus stop to get back to the ship. It is easy to find after you have explored the city.Written 4 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - מוטי לKarmiel, Israel600 contributionslike lombard street of san francisco or nievsky prospect of st. petersburg this is the ultimate street of reykjavic, not long but colorful and very friendly atmosphere.Written 2 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Daniel ASantana de Parnaiba, SP102 contributionsthe most unforgettable trip in the world, you can understand why so many films that take place on other planets are filmed in Iceland, wonderful landscapes, breathtaking roads with excellent paving, majestic waterfalls, geysers, sheep, lots of sheep, it has to be on your bucket listWritten 3 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Richard WPenn Valley, CA862 contributionsThis is an open air museum which offers a glimpse of life in Iceland from years ago. Many of the buildings are authentic and have been moved to this location. Some are authentic to this location. The people of Iceland are descendants of the Vikings. They were used to hardships and using whatever was available to survive in this new land. Some of the very basic ways people lived were still in use into the mid-1900's.
I found this museum to be fascinating.Written 29 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. With the tide out you can cross to the lighthouse and walk around the island.Written 25 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John SHorsham, UK122 contributionsThis small museum was the home of Einer Jonsson and houses a large collection of his works, particularly his fascinating sculptures. There is also a sculpture garden.
Well worth a visit, it is located very close to Hallgrimskirkja church but I suspect often overlooked because the facade facing the church is rather forbidding. I went soon after it opened on a cold and rainy day and had the place to myself; but due to the poor weather I didn't get to see the sculpture garden.Written 30 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You do need to check ferry times as their website wasn’t overly accurate. The island has an interesting history and there are many places that will explain it. There is an art installation as well as the natural wildlife. Paths are marked out as good, ok and a little tricky. Definitely well worth a visit.Written 13 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ričards EdijsLatvia430 contributionsThe museum itself and its surroundings were created and projected by the artist Ásmundar Sveinsson as a place where his legacy could be exhibited. In the park, his sculptures are exhibited and they can be viewed free of charge. Indoors, there is a changing exhibition, as well as many of the same sculptors yet on a much smaller scale so they could be viewed from a different perspective.Written 19 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sandra MHenderson, NV415 contributionsNice statue & while we were there poor Leif got a visit from a pigeon on his head. It is right in front of Hallgrimskirja-- so visit there too!Written 16 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - traveljunkie1983Calgary, Canada349 contributionsHaukadalur Geothermal Area was what my 5 & 7 year olds chose as the major highlight of Iceland. I have to agree with them that it was an amazing place! The Strokkur Geyser erupts every 5 min or so and every time it was shock and awe for everyone there. It was a busy spot, but there are lots of places to walk and spread out. We didn't hike up to the look out point as our littles were tired and not interested, but I imagine it would be fun to see the view from there. There is a free parking lot here as well, and a gift shop/restaurant and bathroom here as well.Written 24 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My only regret is that I didn’t realize there were evening tours to watch the tower light up during the first week of spring - which also coincides with John and Yokos anniversary and Yokos birthday…Written 10 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
