This is a treasure trove of Icelandic history, the highlights really were all of the artefacts from the time the first vikings settled Iceland right through the Middle Ages. If you’re not into history you might not enjoy the bull of this museum but there are halls dedicated to art and contemporary Icelandic history as well as going further back in time. Really was a fascinating few hours and if you like you can even play a game of chess part way around!

We bought loads of chocolate bars & dried fish for friends back home. While prices are great compared to other stores, we were surprised that the airport was selling same chocolates at lower prices on a sale. And wine we bought at vinbudin (?) also less because on sale at airport tho Vinbudin has great prices too. We are still glad we bought early & packed but just an observation.

A good sized mall with all the shops that you need including a cinema. A good place to visit as a tourist if the weather is poor and soak up a couple of hours. Nice food court with a good variety.

Some nice clothes but above vintage prices in other areas. Lovely icelandic knits that were slightly better value than newly bought

Iceland is amazing, mysterious, and absolutely beautiful.  It is definitely a dream trip of a lifetime and one that is deserving of your bucket list.  We spent many days enjoying hiking, whale and puffin watching, glacier walking, volcanoes, and eating the best Icelandic lamb ever.  However, there is always a moment during vacation that one engages in the outliner activity.  Our outliner was our visit to Icebar Reykjavik just for some quick fun.  We used some Expedia points and paid roughly $74.00 for two adults and one child.  The price was not bad considering we had the entire place to ourselves.  It is a fun place to go simply to take photos and enjoy a quick drink.  You will not receive a history lesson or witness the natural beauty of nature however, you will see a few ice sculptures.
I must admit the bartender was awesome and definitely made our visit worthwhile.  Believe me this place can’t match the natural beauty of Iceland however, it is simply a place to take a few photos, enjoy a cocktail, or mocktail and depart.  Definitely a tourist spot however, sometimes even those spots can be fun.

We bought an ultra-cool warm blanket (pun intended), a woolen cap and an Icelandic lopa peysa (its darn itchy but I am hoping it will become normal after a very washes) authentic stuff... Lady in the shop extremely courteous and professional and will not try to sell you stuff unnecessarily. Reasonable prices. Plus you get a nice sales tax refund at the airport . Our cap was basically free after that tax refund. I regretted not getting another blanket with more traditional design. Highly recommend this association

First I’ll say not a big fan of modern art, but love classical pieces. Museum had at least one interactive piece on every floor and activities for children. My favorite piece was one of women washing clothes in a hot spring.

Art Gallery run by local artist- the open early and close later than many others. You can meet the artists in the shop, they take turn tending to the Gallery and helping customers. Always 1 artist to help you.
At the end of the street you see the beautiful huge Hallsgrim Church. Many good shops and cafés on the same street

Skúli Sverrisson has curated an wonderfully intimate space for local artists. Mengi provides an atmosphere you could expect at some of the most exclusive venues in New York City, combined with accessibility to some of Iceland’s greatest talents both new and old. 10/10 would recommend an evening at one of Mengi’s events.

Jon Samunder and the Dead Gallery is a trip. His gallery is stuffed with paintings currently in preparation for a show opening on Sept. 24th in town. While his long term focus seems to be skulls, portraits and complex-patterned paintings of faces/shapes/symbols and ritualistic figures, he is also making some beautiful images of the recent volcano, plants and flowers. He is gifted and I think very worth collecting. I purchased 2 of his volcano paintings - roughly 24x24 for under $1000. A number of the larger pieces were very impressive and will find good homes, I am sure. When we found the gallery, down a side alley off one of the main walking streets in old town, there was tape across the open front doorway. I had to knock and yell before he appeared out of a fabulously packed working art studio space. He said he was closed, too busy working on his upcoming show. I ignored his response and began pointing to paintings that I thought were interesting from the outside doorway view. He responded by spending 45 minutes talking art and looking at a wide array of his work. Jon is much more than a skull ring and t-shirt artist. He has a vision of reality that is extremely outsider, but with the skills to produce well composed and original images. It was a trip meeting Jon and I am happy to have his work hanging in my Chicago condo.

Came to Iceland to see the sights and then stayed by the airport. On the way back from The Golden Circle stopped here for fuel (they have diesel ) for best price and the food court. Once inside it is just like my local Costco in Georgia USA.

Best original and very special gifts from Iceland. Gem from Hidden People is lovely and makes all sorts of detailed, unique and beautiful jewelry pieces. We ended up buying a set of necklace and earrings which had lava from the 2022 volcanic eruption in Iceland. Cannot recommend it enough! We love it!
