This is housed in a truly beautiful gallery (mirrors are provided to view the gorgeous gilded ceiling without having to crane your neck) and contains a small but comprehensive collection of illustrated medical tex...
We had been looking for the hospital to view the beautiful building when we found this museum.

It is the burial site of many of the Doge's of Venice.
We had an apartment with a view of this magnificent church where 25 doges were buried.

Ironically, this site, from the 9th century, was run by nuns who then donated the land now in use by St. Marks on the square....nice bit of history.
Snack for sustenance and have a drink somewhere with a nice view.

Some of the art is wonderful, some is less so, but the sheer volume of art in this former shipbuilding site is mind boggling and awe inspiring.
The walk along the waterfront to reach it gives some of the best views of the city too, or you can just take the Vaporetto straight here.

The present church was built from 1745 to 1760 next to the site of an earlier church, and adjacent to the orphanage and hospital, the Ospedale della Pieta, where Vivaldi taught.

This provided us with the opportunity to take in the lovely views across the waterway and also of the elegant buildings lining the promenade, relatively unhindered.

In my view it's the wandering round Venice that really make the city special, rather than the major tourist sights, and this is one of the nicest of the piazzas to stumble across!
You will see jugglers and people just enjoying this quiet corner only a short walk to any of the major sites in Venice.

The water views are beautiful and it's nice to get away from the tourists.
