Basilica di Santa Maria di Castello
#1 of 54 Museums in Genoa
The very knowledgeable guide took the 3 of us round and explained the history and all the details of the church, cloisters and museum including the beautiful works of art, sculpture, frescoes and architecture.
Some ladies organised a 'friends of the church' group and will take you through the sacristy, cloisters and a little museum which are closed to the general public.
Dialogo nel Buio
#2 of 54 Museums in Genoa
Just in the Acquarium area opposit Galata museum, you must try and book for this tour inside a houseboat with simulation enviroment of life for the blind, so in total darkness with a special guided tour.
Enter the museum entitled Dialogue with Darkness is an experience of what its like to live without any visual sense.

Museo Diocesano Chiostro dei Canonici di San Lorenzo
#3 of 54 Museums in Genoa
The Diocesan Museum of Genoa is housed in a medieval cloister of the twelfth century.
Make sure you buy the 24 or 24 hour museum card to get it included in your tour.
Musei di Strada Nuova
#4 of 54 Museums in Genoa
There is so much to see within these three museums, including plenty of artwork (my highlight being Andrea Sacchi's 'Daedalus and Icarus'), also beautiful gardens and absolutely sensational views from the terrace...
Each museum has beautiful paintings along with many interesting things about each one.
Museo di Palazzo Reale
#5 of 54 Museums in Genoa
This is one of the many wonderful museums where you rarely encounter anyone else but the attendants who check your ticket.
Many of the palaces which door the old City have been converted into museums, banks, universities, residences and the like.

Galata Museo del Mare
#6 of 54 Museums in Genoa
Like most Italian museums, it's full of interesting hands-on, interactive exhibits, of which its section detailing Italian immigration to the US between 1870 and 1930 is particularly well done.
Having been fortunate enough to visit many museums in cities round the world we would rate this as one of the best city museums we have visited.

Palazzo Rosso
#7 of 54 Museums in Genoa
The most interesting of the three palaces on the Via Garibaldi covered by the Museums Card.. Beautiful palace, interesting even without the mostly Italian Renaissance religious art.
Here you find the apartment of Caterina Marcenaro, director of the civic museums of Genoa in the 50s of the twentieth century.
Galleria Nazionale di Palazzo Spinola
#8 of 54 Museums in Genoa
Well worth the effort to find and visit, as are all the other palazzi museums (esp.
Genoa Museum
#9 of 54 Museums in Genoa
Beautiful museum located right in the old harbour, very interesting and well organised.
Villa del Principe
#10 of 54 Museums in Genoa
When I have visited it, there were only three other people in the museum, so it's a rather quiet place.
Palazzo Ducale
#11 of 54 Museums in Genoa
Specially recommend the currents exhibition, but I think is a great museum all year long (and besides, the place itself is very beautiful).

Lanterna di Genova
#12 of 54 Museums in Genoa
From 2014 it is entrusted to a private association that takes care of the entire complex (lighthouse, walk, park and museum) thanks to tickets collected on opening days (Saturdays, Sundays and holidays).
They also have a nice museum, where you'll know how the lenses and turning machinery works.
Palazzo Bianco
#13 of 54 Museums in Genoa
This is really a museum of so many things with plenty of art and fabrics, clothes, coins, ... leading to lovely gardens for photos.
Palazzo Doria-Tursi
#14 of 54 Museums in Genoa
Museo d'Arte Orientale Edoardo Chiossone
#15 of 54 Museums in Genoa
If you like small, intimate museums and oriental art, this is the place for you.
The museum has very nice art facts but the grounds leading to the museum are truly impressive.
Museo Civico di Storia Naturale Giacomo Doria
#16 of 54 Museums in Genoa
A very old museum, has a lot of specimens, especially of more modern animals.
Loved this museum more than I expected.
Musei di Nervi Wolfsoniana
#17 of 54 Museums in Genoa
It is close to three other museums (Gallery of Modern Art, Frugone Collection and Luxoro Museum) and it houses works going from the late 1800s to the end of World War II.
Nervi is home to several art museums, all included in the Genovapass, and all worth a visit.
Museo di Sant'Agostino
#18 of 54 Museums in Genoa
There is such a diverse mix of exhibits of medieval sculpture, church architecture and paintings, all presented in a very modern (inside) museum.
The museum is spacious and well laid out, with good information (helps if you can read Italian).
Musei di Nervi - Galleria d'Arte Moderna GAM
#19 of 54 Museums in Genoa
Well worth the bus/train ride top Nervi to see, along with its neighboring museums.
Some really pretty Italian paintings in a gorgeous setting, the parks surrounding the museum were lovely and the building itself was charming.
