What travellers are saying
- sand4manHouston, TX18 contributionsIncredible trip. Really a romantic city and lots to do. Highly recommend. Happy we came. Will visit again. My wife and I felt it was a great trip!Written 15 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- wireless_in_CAUnited States4,994 contributionsFor those seeking a local, more spacious and less touristy market then this could be one for your visit.
We came on a weekday around noon and it was very quiet inside. Individual counters were selling fresh seafood, meats, and fruits and vegetables. There was a coffee and pastry shop in the front and a place in the back selling local dishes by the kilogram.
We ended up picking up some iberico jamon and salchichon sausage that we snacked on along with a fresh baguette and fruit we also purchased.
Another reason to check out the market is the unique wavy roof above. Colorful tiles on the outside and wooden inside added to the distinctiveness.Written 23 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You won't find a lot of tourists here, but you will find a lot of food to buy. Nice displays. Some market cafes surround it.Written 6 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BRod22SCCLondon, UK122 contributionsThe market is quite pricey, albeit offers a good range of quality food, drink etc.
The real hidden gem is down the road at Superilla Peatonal Sant Antoni - a road junction turned into a picnic area, with range of food shops etc to indulge in; either grab a bite from the Mercat or closer by and enjoy the world going by as its a popular place.Written 16 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Ms_R33480Palm Beach, FL748 contributionsThis is not a huge market but it has a good selection of meats, fish, vegetables, charcuterie, etc. And unlike many of the larger markets in the center of Barcelona this one doesn't cater to tourists, most of the shoppers are locals. There is even a wine stand that sells wine directly from the barrels.
Products tend to be fresh and of good quality and prices average for the area. The floor below the market holds Mercadona, a very large supermarket with everything one may need.
Try to have lunch at one of the several dinning areas, many of which are an extension of the merchant's stands, they have only a few tables, or in some cases you can eat at the counter. We had a great menu del dia at MB's in a corner of the market, attached to a butcher's shop with about 8 small tables. Good food, well prepared, three plates and a drink for 16.50 euros. The service was excellent, friendly and on top of everything, they actually cared that you enjoyed your meal.Written 3 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Great place to buy anything you need, a couple of small bars with coffee, fresh beer and snacks. There is a supermarket in the basement so basically you can do all your food shopping including whatever you want to take home with you. Stocked up on Jamon and the likes in one of stalls, they happily recommended and packed in vacum bags to take home without worrying that it will go off or spread the smell in your bag.Written 28 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dimitris LSydney, Australia45,458 contributionsMercat de la Llibertat is an excellent place to get some lovely fresh food at local prices. It is clean and offers a wide range of fresh produce and other products. You can buy to take away or you can sit in and enjoy a meal inside. The atmosphere is really pleasant. The service professional and friendly. The Market was built back in the late 19th century and was "recently" renovated, in 2009. It's worth a visit if you happen to be in the area.Written 21 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- stephenlauHong Kong, China12 contributionsIf you wish to taste the best local foods with reasonable prices, here is the place. After the meal, you can also walk around the market to buy Spanish ham, sausages, nuts, dates, etc., etc. You can also walk the old city and newly developed area near by.Written 7 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dimitris LSydney, Australia45,458 contributionsWe came across this Market by chance. It was busy and it was excellent. Plenty of fresh food and a wide range of items on offer.Written 22 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dimitris LSydney, Australia45,458 contributionsMercat de Sants is a nice market with a large variety of food. You can find all types of food, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables as well as other types. The prices are probably more suited to the locals, perhaps, as we found that they are a bit different from other similar markets we had visited. Still you can have something simple or not so simple to eat here or take away and you will feel quite satisfied.Written 17 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dimitris LSydney, Australia45,458 contributionsMercat Sagrada Familia is a good neighbourhood Fresh food Market. - Ms_R33480Palm Beach, FL748 contributionsHours are very limited, they close at 2 pm every day. Thy have some good quality stands and based on our experience the service was very good, but there is no much diversity of foods, they cater to locals and carry simpler foods , don't expect very exotic choices, but good overallWritten 4 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PhileasFoggdelBornBarcelona, Spain306 contributionsThe building is not worth but the food stalls are great (high quality, colourful/. Saturday mornings are lively with locals buying food.
