It is easy to see why this is called "beautiful fountain". Designed in the 1380s by Heinrich Beheim, a stonemason, it was intended to top the Frauenkirche. When completed the townspeople decided it was too glorious to be so far removed and it was transformed into a fountain. It stands at an impressive 19 meters high and is bedecked in gold. It contains a seamless copper ring on the north side of the fence that has been rubbed to a golden hue from people's touch as they turn it full circle and make their wishes for the future.

Nice fountain right next to Lorenzkirche. Good to sit and watch everything or just to take a picture

Relative small statue located right along side the Christmas Market, you really need to be looking for it, if you are there during the Christmas season. It is a short walk from the church, and would stand out more when out of season. Great workmanship, enclosed is a wrought iron ‘cage’.

There are numerous statues and monuments scattered around the historic city centre in Nuremburg. One that we enjoyed seeing during our recent stay in the city is the Peter Henlein Brunnen which is situated in the small Hefnersplatz. This monument was unveiled in 1905 during a watch exhibition.

What you see here is a bronze of Peter Henlein, the early 16th-century clockmaker who invented the world's first pocket watch in 1505. He is standing beside a natural log stand and is holding a mechanical device in his left hand which he is peering at intently.

That statue stands upon a globe shaped stone pedestal embedded into a sphere that represents the Nuremburg Egg. Near the bottom of the sphere there are faces with spouts that spill water into the fountain basin below. Unfortunately during out December visit, the fountain was expected turned off.

It is an interesting monument to one of Nuremburg's important historical figures, worth spending a few minutes to view if you enjoy seeing statues and monuments during your travels.

This fountain of cascading shells can be found on Kaiserstrasse in the city centre. It is rather soothing to hear the water amongst all the concrete.

There are a couple of interesting monuments at Maxplatz in the city centre of Nuremburg including Dürer-Pirckheimer-Brunnen. This is a classical style fountain designed by Carl Alexander von Heideloff and constructed in 1821. It is dedicated to two important historical figures of Nuremburg, the painter Albrecht Dürer and the humanist Willibald Pirckheimer.

What you will see is a sandstone monument in the shape of a short compact obelisk. It is adorned with garlands and gold medallions of Dürer and Pirckheimer on opposite sides. The two other sides include engravings of the Nuremburg coat of arms. To the sides of the monument are two metal pools which collect water spouting from lion masks just above.

Overall, this is a simple but interesting monument to view at Maxplatz. You'll find it just across from the historic Wienstadel building. If you enjoy viewing monuments, there is also a Baroque style Triton fountain around 40-50 metres away also in Maxplatz. It is worth a look-see as well.

There are a couple of interesting monuments at Maxplatz in the city centre of Nuremburg including Tritonbrunnen (Triton Fountain) situated in the centre of the public square.

It seems this is the only Baroque monument in the city and was the work of Johann Leonhard Bromig the Elder in 1689. The fountain is an imitation of Bernini's Fontana del Tritone at Piazza Barberini in Rome.

What you see is a triton blowing upward into a conch shell. He situated within a giant conch shell that rests of a pedestal surrounded by dolphins. It is similar to what you see with the original Tritone fountain in Rome. However, this monument appears considerably more drab and in need of a bit of care.

The triton and dolphins likely spout water into the basin fountain pool below. However, during our December visit, the fountain was not operational, like all other fountains we viewed in Nuremburg at this time. No doubt, this would be a much more appealing monument to see during warmer months of the year.
