We visited from Rennes taking a direct bus trip (Keolis) from the central station taking one hour to arrive at the very MSM modern tourist centre. It is a 35 minutes walk from the tourist hub along a bridge-like causeway to reach the Mount itself. The alternative is to take the very regular shuttle buses, that apparently run 24 hrs per day. If you wish to visit the Abbey, I would recommend advanced booking. Ticket prices are very reasonable (Euro 11) and we took around an hour to do the tour. It is impressive to say the least - a vertically stacked multi-storey monastery with fantastic views across the bay.

Expansive sand beach with such a very sad history of war. Was there near the end of day so missed the cemetery. Certainly a stop for those interested in war history.

One of the best sites to see in Normandy. To see the holes created by the shelling and to see what the Rangers had to do to capture this position is just incredible.

Fascinating and moving. Focused on the Pegasus bridge area with lots of individual stories and memorabilia. Very good explanation by guide with large model of the amazing g job the glider pilots did. Good movie played in different languages. Many moving displays from families.

This was an amazing day we spent here. The tour, followed by the tasting was superb. The Palace is incredibly beautiful and the Liqueur is sooo tasty. If you have the chance, don't miss out on this experience. It's absolutely worth it

This is a beautiful site. After seeing churches and cathedrals around the country, there was something intriguing and beautiful about a ruin. The grounds are also large. The art and sculpture display on site was very enjoyable with juxtaposition of modern photography and ancient statues.

Until I was planning our trip to the Normandy beaches, I didn't know that England created an artificial harbor as part of the attack. Wow is all I can say. The harbor was large and it was a massive undertaking that clearly had an impact on the outcome of the war.

This is one of the landmarks of Rouen with the cathedral. Located in the heart of the city called Vieux Rouen. It's between the cathedral and the Vieux marché square where Joan of arc was burnt by the English.

Interesting detour in Granville. Must for those interested in fashion. Otherwise, the garden is enough to just appreciate.

I was born in Hastings so I had to see what the opposition had to offer!!!

It knocks Hastings Castle into a cocked hat, I have to say. There is a lot to see and the entrance fee includes an interactive tablet which gives a lot of detail. Choose your language for the commentary.
There is quite a lot of walking if you want to see it all and a good number of stairs. There are plenty of posters that give explanations of the French and European history that led up to the invasion and they cover elements of the battle which are not widely known. My only query was the point where they say William had a thousand ships. I think that is debatable but as I wasn’t there counting……………..
I was a little worried that it would be “triumphalist” but not so. There are plenty of references to Hastings, pronounced Assteens.

The gift shop is well stocked with all sorts of goods; some tasteful, some tacky. No coffee shop.

Spent 2-3 days in the area. This is the visit we still talk about. Apart from Arromanches-les-Bains, which was so crowded we could not stop. Note that all the bad reviews of Maisy pare quite old and hopefully will disappear. You need to visit Point du Hoc first, and if you ever get in, then parked, then keep to the walkways …it’s fine. Do some reading before you visit and seek to impose your reviews on the humble reader. Expect a couple of hours’ fascinating historical entertainment at Maisy. Bit of a job to find, but surely that was the point. Do not expect Disneyworld. Hot and dry when we went, but I can see mud might me an issue when wet. Take wellies just in case. Real hardware to be found there … who has ever stood next to 5+ tons of killing machine? I have been to Nürnberg and Munich (we have family there). Here, the Germans pay tribute to 20th century history by preventing things from falling down, but not really preserving them. Maisy is along those lines. Yes, someone could spend big money on it, but this would not be the point of it all. So, go …take your wellies …pay your €7 … remember the suffering and loss 80 yrs ago …and go home and tell everyone.

Loved it. Museography snobs might criticise the number of artefacts in some of the display cabinets, but the different objects, from military hardware to items in everyday civilian use under the Occupation, provide a tangible link to the past, That link is strengthened by the audiovisual projections of interviews with eyewitnesses and descendants of civilians living in the area at the time.

Great - there is NOTHING hilarious about this. It is a honorary tribute to a young man who volunteered to help the world stay free.

You really have to know how to get there. It's used by an art school, as well as some new little cafés.
If you look carefully at the architecture, the wood is carved with skulls on it.
