- Thirdeyemom T1 contributionI had perhaps five of the most incredible, adventurous and spectacular days ever in Panama thanks to the amazing guides and staff at Step by Step Travel. We saw humpback whales with their babies, dolphins, many tree frogs, sloths and more. We swam in a bat cave, swam with wild dolphins in the distance and most importantly of all connected with the indigenous cultures and communities of Panama. A truly beautiful experience and all was fantastic! - pmcg2015San Antonio, TX17 contributionsWe stayed 5 nights in one of the vacation rentals overlooking the rest of the resort (there were 4 units up there). The unit (#23) was comfortable, modern, clean and spacious. The A/C and water pressure were wonderful. We had issues with the water one day which were fixed quickly. The kitchen had basic cooking and dining items. We didn't use it as originally intended because the restaurant was amazing. No kettle or tea pot but had two types of coffee makers (drip and French press). Water bottles were provided in the refrigerator. No coffee or tea was provided. The clothes washer and dryer are in a separate building by the unit and are shared with others. Despite there hardly being anyone else at the resort they seemed very busy during the day. We were able to get our clothes in early in the morning (no detergent - you have to bring your own or get lucky - we left ours behind for the next guest). The patio looks out into the Pacific and Boca Bravado island. The walk to/from the unit to the restaurant was uphill or downhill without stairs and ~ 1/2 of it was covered. This could be an issue for those with mobility disabilities and no car. Umbrellas are provided.
The restaurant, as mentioned, provided delicious food in a relaxed and beautiful environment. The Pacific or the pool can be viewed while eating. We had mostly chicken and vegetarian dishes and they were all wonderful. Prices were around $12-25 for the meals we purchased. Breakfast is included and was very good and basic. The management can send you menus. We walked (10 minutes) to the neighboring hotel (Seagull) and looked at their menu for diner. It looked good, but the evening rains and great food at Boca del Mar deterred us from going.
The pools were well maintained and comfortable. We swam in both of them. We were there when the crowds were low and mostly had the pools to ourselves. The campus is very pretty and well landscaped. We hung out at the yoga deck and enjoyed listening to the waves hit the beach while reading and napping. We saw iguanas and many birds on the property. We walked to the caged birds but didn't stay long (mosquitos). We did not need bug spray at any other time on the property except at the bird cages.
We signed up for the Activity Package and did the island cruise/whale watching, the Culture Tour, hiking at Boca Brava and kayaking off the dock. Our guides were all wonderful, the captains of the boats gave a safe and comfortable ride, and the logistics for all was easy. Basically we informed the nice folks is the reception area of our activity choice a day prior and they coordinated it and told us when to show up. This might be more complicated when the resort is busy. Of note - we did see whales during our mid-Sept stay however the guide said they were getting a little harder to find with the season for whale watching coming to an end.
We also used they're transport service from David which was expensive but so nice to not worry about a rental. There is really no where to drive once at Boca del Mar anyway. Lastly, weather for our time there was partly cloudy in the morning and drizzly/rainy in the late afternoon/evening. One day was drizzly/rainy all day but we were on the Culture Tour which was mostly dry despite being just a little more inland from the resort. For being the rainy season we felt lucky to have so much sunshine.

We spent a lot of time on 3 beaches and wish the snorkeling would have been better. Some tips: bring cash to pay for lunch if you do not bring lunch. If you speak English you will not understand as the staff only speak Spanish which was not a problem for us. - Tracy GDubai, United Arab Emirates267 contributionsGreat crew and fantastic experience I highly recommend this to all ages. Put this on your MUST do list in Panama. The experience was one of a kind Luis and Angel were a great team who knew where the fish were and we asked for a variety and they knew where to find and catch all kinds. - KristenSaint Cloud, FL10 contributionsOur family of 3 went out with Captain Chuy and first mate Michael on the purple panga for some Panamanian inshore fishing… well it didn’t not disappoint They definitely know the waters and how to fish. The panga was a lot of fun. My son was so happy just consistently catching fish throughout the day, Jacks, 2 huge rooster and needlefish. It was windy but tolerable! The snacks, fried chicken and drinks were on point! The beach was beautiful and nice to relax at the end of the day! My son already said this is the place to go and loves Panama and the purple panga!! Thanks to Merf & Sue for planning an amazing fishing trip for us. - Exploration7095041 contributionI went with my grandchildren on a tour with Daniel. Everything was amazing, we saw many dolphins, whales and spend a wonderful time in Gamez Island.

Saw some amazing beaches and open water. They have a great vessel, a Grady White and it was very comfortable out on the water. The attention to detail is very good to see. - Kim P6 contributionsAbsolutely gorgeous! The staff is amazing! We live an hour and a half away in Boquete & decided to do a little getaway, we love it so much we are staying an extra night.
