What travellers are saying
- Glen MikkelsenAlbany, NY3 contributionsThey say St. Maarten is the friendly island! Since 1993, we have found this to be very true! It's the people of St. Maarten that make us feel welcome! That is what keeps us coming back. Now to the point, Miguel is the BEST of the best when it comes to hospitality and taking care of his customers! The Boardwalk is a great place to enjoy a day on the beach, combined with fine dining, fun shopping and plenty of bar hopping! Of course, the first thing to do is pick out some chairs & umbrella and jump in the water! There are plenty of choices, but if you don't pick the orange umbrellas, you won't meet Miguel and that will be the greatest loss of your vacation....Written 16 April 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Sheila251St. Andrews, Manitoba, Canada20 contributionsWe went March 2022. The first visit - there were no cruise ships in port. It was quiet and calm. We rented chairs/umbrella's ($20 ) is average. The beach was wonderful. People were super kind. We went swimming several times and it was great. We walked through the shop areas but most were closed.
We went back around (March 28), rented chairs and jetski. This time there was 4 ships in at Port. It was busier but still able to get good chairs. Ate on the boardwalk (not the best meal). Walked to the Market and some shops. Great day.
The person who we rented the jet skis was kind of rude but quickly changed his behavior when he was advised he was making an unnecessary scene. We rented jet ski for 40 minutes, daughter came back after 25 minutes as fuel gauge was blinking. Owner took jet ski to get fuel, came back. I went back out with my son where the owner yelled at my husband on beach saying we were out 5 minutes longer then we should be. This was NOT the case. We did not get an apology - hopefully next time he will be a nicer person.Written 25 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - jenna y2 contributionsThis was such a unique and unexpected exhibit to find our on vacation! - Jenny BSecaucus, NJ57 contributionsA must go to when here on the island. Majestic water and even has an iguana feeding station! We always do the snorkeling trip that ends up here.Written 19 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- AMsaysThornhill, Canada3,479 contributionsI walked here from the boardwalk, sometimes along the beach but mostly over black rocks. The bluest water I have even see in stark contrast with the black rocks and white sand. It’s near the Divi and Bel Air resorts so there were many sunbathers revelling in the water. I swam around the area where the Sonesta used to be but now demolished after 2017’s Hurricane Irma. Apparently, there is great snorkelling around here, but I didn’t see anything. I’ll need better directions next time.Written 24 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Sheila251St. Andrews, Manitoba, Canada20 contributionsI do not know what it looked like before 2017 hurricane BUT I felt that it seems to be all open. Lots of high end jewelry stores and lots of souvenirs. Appears that most of the restaurants are all open. We felt very safe. The minute the cruise ships left - stores seem to close immediately. It's warm and the sun is hot - two hours was enough but with having the water/beach right there to jump in and cool off.
Our kids enjoyed the area as well.Written 25 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - MJCP824 contributionsWe’ve been here several times. Although the area has been considerably built up over the years it’s tasteful and retains the relaxed vibe. Our hotel was in walking distance to all the hotels and beachside amenities. The only caveat is that each beach area comes with its own rules about who can use which lounges (even when the hotel provides for them with your stay). All of the restaurants in the food court area are very good but be sure to book in advance if you have a favoriteWritten 4 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Kevin NMcDonough, Georgia, United States12 contributionsThe beach is famous for the planes landing and taking off. There were people asking about massages and hair braiding, but nothing that was super annoying. They're just trying to make a living. I'd say I wouldn't take small children because the waves are pretty strong but it is beautiful.Written 24 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Tiffany389Philadelphia, PA132 contributionsCalm turquoise water and one of the most beautiful beaches that I've been to and I have been to 21 islands! The water is so calm, that is why I love it. I have been to St. Martin 3 times.Written 17 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- ShawnaCanuckVancouver, Canada261 contributionsThis is a small beach but swimming friendly. I loved Orient Beach but the waves were huge - not at all the case here. Fairly shallow for a bit, no waves and the water is decently warm. The blue chairs are part of Atrium but if you tip you can sit there if not staying there. Even when I stay at Atrium I tend to sit in the yellow chairs that belong to Buccaneer Beach Bar as I am ordering drinks anyways so its more convenient for me. Lovely spot to watch the sunset as well. Plus you can easily get to the Captain Rib Shack for take out if you aren't feeling the food options on the beach. I did notice the sand isn't quite as soft as some of the other beaches on the island but still overall its a nice option for a beach day if you want the amenities of restaurants and a bar.Written 14 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- complete1959North Kingstown, RI43 contributionsThey have a good selection of gambling machines and have a few restaurants right there as well. Never stayed there.Written 7 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Ted PJersey City22 contributionsSad to see what COVID has done to the island. Shops are open, shoppers are limited as the recovery slowly gains momentum.Written 30 May 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Kurt C7 contributionsI'm not giving directions, there are many videos on line to show you how to get there. But be careful. During the green season, the grass is high and covers rocks beneath and the ledge is very steep. Do not try to get down that hill with flip flops! This is a fun spot but dangerous to get to and the beach can be very small to gone on a high tide. So, good luck. You'll need it. You need perfect weather and tide conditions and hope no one is around ;-). Note: It's only 150 yards or so after the gate, but you will walk past it at least once. lolWritten 4 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- James&Ami Thompson21 contributionsGreat history and beautiful views. Easy uphill walk. Great place to take pictures and see both sides. Dutch and French waterfronts. As well as the airport.Written 29 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Cat326staten island, ny75 contributionswe took a hike up to some of the higher elevations. the views are beautiful. the hike is a steady incline, so be prepared for a work-out. there is a rock scramble we weren't expecting, but it was a lot of fun. very peaceful surroundings with plenty of spots to take break on the way up.Written 28 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
