Ipogeo Celitco is an amazing place and just one of the reasons to visit Cividale. We stayed at the BnB, Il Rifugio del Monaco, and it was great.

You need to ask for the key in the entrance of Tempietto Longobardo, then you can go by yourself after leaving them an ID. Steep uneven stair, humid and dark atmosphere. There are 3 small masks carved in the rocks you can identify, looking carefully. Shivering.

Deserves a quick visit. Quite intriguing as the purpose of the complex is not clear. You will get the keys to enter at the Maria della Valle complex.

This was a hidden gem that many of the locals were not aware of. After you get over the hurdle of getting a key from the travel information office you step into a wonderful find. This is a place of mystery that anyone who likes archeology and ancient cultures would love it. It's really small but is nice and cold during the hot summer. We came with teens and they loved the adventure.

I was there on a very hot day in June 2014. You get the key for the door at the Trattoria next to it. Nothing spectacular, but it is free and cold done there. You enter by going down some slippery steep stairs. The cave consists out of one main-opening with smaller side-caves. Nothing big.

This cave is located in Borgo di Medievale in a narrow alley next to the a cafe/bar on the corner. It's also nearby the Ponte del Diavolo,There is a note posted on the door to tell you the opening hours and how to get the key to go down the cave. The place is managed by the cafe/bar personnel, and a small donation is required to visit. It's fair enough. Visit is self-guided. Once enter, there are switches on the wall to turn the lights on and you must also turn the lights off, lock back on your way out. A long steep staircase lead you to the center chamber and three corridors. On the walls there are niches some look burnt and three rough mysterious masks. Historians and locals do not know for sure why the cave existed and its original functions, but was suggested a funerary use in Celtic Hypogeum, or as prisons of the Roman or Lombard period. It is spooky and scary to go down there alone, so have friends to go with you.

Nice little cave next to the river, many stories are behind this and what people really needed it for. The entry is free, although it's money offers after your visit are recommended. You get the keys from the bar/café next to it and not many people can go inside at a time.
