what an amazing experience! The medieval town is so charming and unique. We had a beautiful, spacious suite. Valentina, the concierge, is absolutely incredible: so friendly and helpful. My only suggestion to the hotel would be to please have the firewood stocked each day. Every night when we would return the basket would be empty. The fireplace was so nice to enjoy wine in front of. I would definitely recommend and I will definitely come back!

Where to begin?
The good: lovely grounds and facilities. The horseback riding is a must (if it your thing). The Osteria has good food and great ambiance. The breakfast is also very good.

The bad:
If you book through Expedia (as we did) do not expect to get a good room. We booked a delux room and are not even sure we got one. The room was on the lower level (room 502) with no view and loud as the people above us did a lot of yelling, slamming doors and stomping around. The room itself seemed as if someone had started decorating and stopped half way though. The rooms did not reflect the photos on their website or TripAdvisor.
If you want to book the Tuscan Bistro make sure you do it weeks in advance. They do not give priority to hotel guests. What was worse was that we were give a reservation and than it was taken away to accommodate others (large group of Russians had arrived). After fighting with the manager over the lack of service (given the choice I would have checked out at that point) he apologized and covered our dinner on the third night at the Tuscan Bistro (we had made that reservation ourselves 3months prior). The lack of simple guest service turned me off staying at another Ferragamo hotel which is a shame as I love the brand and have enough shoes and bags from them to start my own museum. Had the manager actually apologized from the beginning rather than argue with me and tell me that it did not matter than perhaps I would be writing a different story.
Bottom line is that I would recommend staying somewhere else. The rooms are not particularly beautiful or maybe they are of you book directly. The service from the front reception was not good and management has no clue how to deal with sticky situations. Yes we were given a free dinner after a situation that was completely unnecessary. Service from the rest of the staff including the concierge in the medical village is good. However I would recommend staying elsewhere while booking the Osteria (not the Tuscan Bistro as the food was better at the Osteria) for dinner and if you enjoy horseback riding you can book that without staying there.

The estate is one of the most wonderful I have ever seen. It's huge. It has golf. It has a spa. It has tennis. It has hiking. The rooms are amazing. But the services are way below what I would expect from it. Apart from the guys who drive you all around in small cars, who are very polite and have a very good English, and also the people who cleaned our room, the services are not good. Breakfast is fancy, nothing special. Dinner at the Osteria del Borro (please read my review at its TripAdvisor psge) was way below any expectation. Services at the pool were medium. Short wine list. Short menu. Heterogeneous quality of service. The infinite pool is lovely, but, come on, for a place like this couldn't it be heated? Anyway, these are things that make me uncomfortable because the services should match the place. If was not by the food, I would eagerly wait for my next time around here.

Just finished a four night stay at Il Borro. The staff is exceptional - very friendly and caring. Our suite was very nice, but needed refreshening. Major drawback at the hotel is the hilly distances between the rooms and other areas of the hotel, like the swimming pools, spa, and restaurants (although they gladly send a car to shuttle you). Another major drawback is that the food at the two on-site restaurants is not befitting a Relais & Chateaux property. We had dinner our first night at the hotel’s upscale restaurant and were so disappointed that thereafter we chose to go outside the hotel to local area restaurants for dinner.

We spent a week in Il Borro and it was amazing experience, the room was huge and everything had the feeling of authentic and up scale.
Breakfast was great with a view on the village.
The only point which is missing is a good place to have dinner in the hotel. The restaurant doesn’t represent the amazing food of the area and there are many other options in a 20-30 minuets drive.

Lovely property in Tuscany. Tree lined road leading to main area. Tomato vines, grape vines, and other types of beautiful flora. Did a wine tasting and tour. Interesting set of art collected by the Ferragamo family. The pieces all had some relevance to wine. The wines themselves are tannic and dry as are majority of the wines in the Tuscan region. We enjoyed our lunch experience more than the actual lunch itself. Over a bottle of rose, we had grilled octopus, ricotta cheese dumplings, and tiramisu for dessert. Offered free WiFi in the lobby which was nice. Would prefer to ha e had the experience in warmer weather to enjoy the outdoor beauty of the area.

It was so neat to explore this place. Simply beautiful, quaint, great wines, specialty shops. And incredible views. Really enjoyed wandering this little area.

Whilst there is no denying the beauty of the surroundings and the attention to detail in the decor, we were less than impressed with the way this resort was being run.
On arrival, no-one came out to greet us when we drove up, nor did they give us the room we had booked. They told us that the room they were giving us was more up to date and had its own garden, so we naturally thought we had been upgraded.
When we were shown the room, we thought it was ok, but not special and we were quite surprised. The grass in the garden was untended and overgrown and there was just a table and chairs with no seat pads on which to sit. No sunbeds - nothing else at all.
No chest of drawers in the bedroom in which to put underwear etc and the safe was broken. That was the last straw so we insisted they move us immediately and they concurred and promptly helped us to move to the room we had booked in the first place, which of course was delightful! Why oh why do these Hotels try and fob people off with inferior rooms? I don't understand it. They ask you to pay a huge sum per night and then try to give you inferior accommodation. You shouldn't have to go through that with an Hotel of this calibre.
Breakfast was good and dinner in the informal dining room was likewise good. Neither coffee and tea or water were replaced in the room. We had to ask for more water. Nor did we get a price list for the mini bar which we requested.
Service on the whole is good-but so it should be at a 5 star Hotel.
Coming back to the Hotel after eating out, we had to wait several minutes for the one and only night porter to open the electric gates to the Estate. When I enquired why couldn't they issue guests with a fob, he told us there was a special code we should have been given on arrival. Why didn't he give that to me when I called him from the car to let us in??? No response at all from the intercom.
Last year we stayed at the other Ferragamo resort at Castiglione Del Bosco, which is run by Rosewood and there we had the sort of service which befitted a 5 star resort.
Really, not good enough Il Borro. Please consider you are charging top dollar for your resort and people have many options of places to stay when they are paying that amount of money per night! You really need to consider your operation.
