Nice monastery with brewery nearby. Huge parking space available. Better to visit out of weekends due to really big traffic of tourists. Chappel equiped with many historical artifacts. Huge brewery restaurant with local specialties - pork knee and beer.

The monastery is just beautiful. You can walk around and get into the church for free. Directly down the hill is enough parking space. Definitely a perfect photo spot!

Leaving from Munich we took the S8 which only went as far as Pasing, but they have “S8” busses that continue the rest of the way to Herrsching Station. Across from the station is a TI that provides a free map with hiking trails up...More

There are several fabulous walks up the hill through the forest from Herrshing, but don't use Google or Apple maps as they'll try and send you via the road which has no footpath! You need to be fairly fit to take the forest walks, although...More

There is a beautiful church that has great history of pilgrims. The view from the grounds overlooking the Alps in the background and the little villages below is amazing. After walking around the grounds, we ate and drank at the café. The pork knuckle, grilled...More

If you arrive early in Munich, 6-7 am, drive first to Freising for breakfast but if you arrive after 10 am, drive directly to Andechs and tour the grounds and church, and have lunch....WELCOME to Bavaria and on to Blaue Gams in Ettal.

We are visiting Starnberg and thought we'd check this Monastery and of course the beer! Great beer and the Crispy Pork Belly was so good! My gf is vegetarian and she loved the potato salad and the coleslaw. As a typical Bavarian pub I'd say.
