If you arrive early in Munich, 6-7 am, drive first to Freising for breakfast but if you arrive after 10 am, drive directly to Andechs and tour the grounds and church, and have lunch....WELCOME to Bavaria and on to Blaue Gams in Ettal.

We are visiting Starnberg and thought we'd check this Monastery and of course the beer! Great beer and the Crispy Pork Belly was so good! My gf is vegetarian and she loved the potato salad and the coleslaw. As a typical Bavarian pub I'd say.

The food and beer were outstanding. We had roasted pig hocks on the bone with a salty crust. The delicious Andechs beer is made on this site. We toured the beautiful ancient church. This is worth the drive. We did not get to tour the...More

Was told this was the best beer in Bavaria...and after having all the core Munich beers, although they were all great, this was the greatest. A beautiful town, monastery, and don’t forget the nearby lake, this was an excellent day trip.

I love visiting religious sites particularly when they are remote but on this occasion I went to Andechs to sample the beer. Before I write anything else, it was worth every step I walked. Simply the best beer I've ever tasted bar none. We caught...More

We found our best adventures happen when we get a referral and when we keep an open mind. Luckily a friend of ours referred Andechs Monastery to us, otherwise we never would have visited. The Benedictine monastery is located little more than one hour way...More
