Very impressive hike through a gorge following the Cares river. I recommend going outside of the weekend and high season, to have the gorge to yourselves (and some others, maybe quite alot).

If you walk from Caín to Puente Poncebos, the trail is easier than doing it on the opposite direction, because it will be plain most of the way, the last 2 Km are more difficult, so you will find some people recommending to avoid this...More

Wonderful route. Started in Poncebos it is very demanding and you will be climbing up for more than 2km but it is worth every metre you walk up till you reach the top of the path. Be prepared for the summer because temperatures may rise...More

When starting at Poncebos bridge, prepare for about 45 mins of firm walking up the mountain; when reaching the peak you can descent on a kind of ‘highway’, nice wide track. Beautiful views.

You can start this route in either Poncebos or Cain, the latter end being the more beautiful but to get to Cain from Asturias takes a couple of hours by car or bus. Walking at a leisurely pace from one end to the other takes...More

The views from the Ruta Cares are absolutely spectacular and so far as I know there is nothing else like it in the world. The River Cares carves an incredibly steep gorge through the limestone cliffs of Picos De Europa. Much of the trail is...More

The most impressive part of the route is near Cain. This is also very easy to walk, so we started from Cain and walked 5km up and down the path. One word:very very impressive. After every corner you see a new scene from Lord of...More

We started the walk in Cain, this way you immediately get to the most spectacular part of the walk. Just walk de road down through the village and you automatically come onto the Ruta del Cares. You have to cross a bridge over the Cares...More

Tips:

If hiking from the Poncebos Bridge end, the parking is limited to parking along the side of the entry road. The earlier you arrive the closer you will be to the trailhead. We parked around 9am on a Tuesday and were near the trailhead....More

Should you be visiting the North of Spain in the Asturias, this a quintessential way to experience the Picos de Europa. Starting at Poncebos to Cain, with the option to either return or carry on to Posada de Valdeón, the route is a constant source...More

I doubt it, simply because of sharing the narrow trail with hikers. I don't know if it is allowed. Walking allows you to really take in the views.
