Whether Pelayo was a legend or not, one cannot help feeling the sacredness of the place and its role in the history of Spain.

A must see in the area. Spectacular countryside and religious / historical site. There is no getting around that parking can be a nightmare on busy days (weekends etc) which makes visiting very difficult especially with young children.

This is a much-visited shrine. The church is impressive, with its mountain setting, and can be seen from quite a distance. Bells ring to call the faithful. Very near is the cave with a small chapel.

You see this perched up on the hill and you just have to go and have a look. It is a beautiful building and then go an look at the grotto tucked into the hillside

Quite a strange experience. The cave is halfway up a big cliff over a waterfall. Very atmospheric, The chapel in itself is not much. It's where it is that makes it special.

Should you find yourself in Covadonga with spare time then utilise it to see this Chapel, set into a mountain cave with a waterfall underneath it. Not what you would expect to find in the middle of nowhere but should you want to the research...More

Good parking, easy access, the cathedral is beautiful set in the high mountains. The cave sanctuary is carved into the mountain side an they hold active ongoing services there. This is a MUST SEE in northern Spain
