Perfect beach with fine pebbles and clear turquoise waters ideal for snorkeling. One of the most beautiful and clean beaches!

Kalamata is a wonderful traditional city and the beach is amazing and huge, with many restaurants, bars and water sports activities. The beach area is impressive, the sea is clean and fresh. The night life is intense. We have spent five days in an excellent beachfront hotel. Kalamata hosts also in July a very interesting international modern dance festival and a high quality museum of traditional costumes. We had a perfect time!

The beach is very long and the part nearest the port is the busiest.
We got the No1 bus from the city centre and got off about a kilometre along the seafront from the port. Here there are few tavernas and it is much nicer.
Beach is a standard Greek beach. Tavernas/ cafes have sunbeds which looked fine. Some places have music but the one we picked was quiet.
There are life guards, and a shower with a changing hut at regular inervals.
Worth a trip. The views from the seafront are impressive.

The beach in Kalamata proper is NOT clean, NOT sandy and NOT organized. Mostly all broken down places, processed and frozen food items. The sundeds are dirty and and broken.Very cheap, loud and obnoxious. Go to Mani or Stoupa or Costa Navarino. Nothing in Kalamata worth wasting anytime.

The “beach” is full of dirty facilities that serve as cheap tourist trap. No service, questionable food, and NO food safety. (Beware of what you consume) Most food is processed and or frozen. Kalamata is a dirty port city with Marina serving as a junkyard for old boats. No respect for tourists or appreciation. If you find yourself in the area, immediately go to Costa Navarino area about 45 minutes from Kalamata airport.
There are far more beautiful destinations in Greece and Europe.

The area is beautiful, mountain and the sea, relatively safe except for speeding drivers and constant second hand smoke. The area is barbaric and lawless. The 17km of beach is littered with disgusting dirty beach beds, mystery food that will most definitely create stomach issue. The "marina" is a junkyard for all types of boats and needs extensive renovations. If you find a place to eat, make sure it is family owned and an owner is preparing meals. Taverna is your best option, stay away from any so called "restaurants" There is NO service or understanding of service for even basic customer expectations. There is nothing in the immediate area that is worth visiting or any attraction.Mediocre hotels, mostly very low quality frozen food, and beaches littered with uncleaned areas.
The local mentality is to take/steal whatever money possible from tourist. There are so many better places in and around Greece to visit, better people and hospitality and better overall experience.

This is a very beautiful area, the sea, the mountains, the greenery. Location is good, easy 2-hour drive from Athens. An airport, deep water Marina, the area is wonderful.
The local cuisine is very mediocre, mostly mystery food and frozen. Nothing that fresh, cheap eats, cheap liquor and no real hospitality. Not very clean along the beach or the main beach street, Navarinou. Too much graffiti, the buildings private and government are in shambles and do not resemble the photos. It is not quaint and more a waste of time and money. If you are on a budget and quality is NOT important, or cleanliness, this place is for you. Otherwise, drive to Costa Navarino, or Mani area.

Keep walking! Some of the best parts of the beach are away from the crowded sea wall area. There are a couple crazy restaurants that have an invisible order list of who is next to have a chair on the beach like De Luz. But all the cool restaurants with chairs use first come first serve. They are where you want to go. Otherwise just park and bring your own chair. The whole beach is public!

Kalamata has much potential. 2 hour easy drive from Athens Greece and an International airport, Marina and deep water for Yachts. The swim-able beach coastline is about 9 kilometers.
The beaches are mostly raw with disorganized beach venues, no service or a quality setting.
Having said that, it is very beautiful, the sea and the mountains and the quaint fishing towns. If you want a nice beach day and sunset, go to Yanina Kai Parea Beach Lounge. (Fabulous and Beautiful) If you like to rough it, go to Akti Beach Cafe. (Limited services and facilities)
