Kalamata has much potential. 2 hour easy drive from Athens Greece and an International airport, Marina and deep water for Yachts. The swim-able beach coastline is about 9 kilometers.
The beaches are mostly raw with disorganized beach venues, no service or a quality setting.
Having said that, it is very beautiful, the sea and the mountains and the quaint fishing towns. If you want a nice beach day and sunset, go to Yanina Kai Parea Beach Lounge. (Fabulous and Beautiful) If you like to rough it, go to Akti Beach Cafe. (Limited services and facilities)

Endless beach with the warmest and safest waters around the world! well organised, especially when close to the hotels. The Monaco of the Balkans is hereto serve and offer the best that a beach can offer: sun, sports, food and relaxation!

The long beach of Kalamata is very pleasant to swim in. It is not a tropical beach but it offers the possibility to have fun and enjoy all the activities someone can expect when visits a beach.

Cool clear sea water, as a giant swimming pool. Love swimming in water where I can see the bottom even in deeper parts. No sharks! Beautiful beaches with many cafes, restaurants, ice cream in patisseries along the beach shores. A wonderful perfect area ♡

Heart of the city. The typical Greek beachfront. Drinks and appetizers on the beach is where it’s at

mostly marble pebbles and sand. This is not ideal beach material. The wave action dissolves the sand and the water moves ever closer to the concrete "boardwalk." Think of the New Jersey shore--acres of white silica sand.) In the breaker zone the beach is surprisingly steep, and beyond the breakers, the bottom falls off precipitously. Getting out, I tried to stand but the waves kept knocking me down. I had to crawl out on all 4's.
The other reviewers love the tavernas, decks, umbrellas, drinks, sunbeds and all that, but I go for the water. The air and water temps were fine, but if it is a bit rough, only strong swimmers should go in.

Kalamata beach is dotted with Tavernas and umbrellas. You could enjoy a meal right on the beach, rent a lounge chair with umbrella, and swim in the ocean!

We were there during off-season and so many of the locations were not open but enough for for us to enjoy ourselves.

I stayed for 1 week in Kalamata and went to this beach every day! Okay, it's not the prettiest beach I've ever seen (particularly due to lack of sand), but it is a very pleasant beach on which to sunbathe and swim. The water is perfectly clear and warm and the sea very calm. The beach is lined with many lovely restaurants, all of which have sunbeds at the front which you can use free of charge after purchasing something from the restaurant. I would have breakfast somewhere, and then stay on the sunbed all day!
Love this beach and can't wait to go back!
