This cathedral is the dominant of Altamura. The Roman Catholic church is a bishop seat and it is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. You will admire both the interior and the exterior with lovely statues and great stone carving.

Since 1238 this church was led by different conquerors. All the time it has functioned as a local place of worship. The exterior remains as it was originally built. While I was in Altamura for a week I saw both a local wedding and a...More

It's nice to stroll along the small street's surrounding the Cathedral, stopping for a coffee at any of the many available around and visiting the Cathedral which is nice for itself but same as many others at south Italy.

We visited the Cathedral while there was a wedding ceremony going on. It is a grand and intricately decorated Cathedral. Was simply beautiful, I can't even imagine getting married there.

Very beautiful cathedral with impressive entrance door. We loved everything about this town. Altamura is a little gem not to be missed.

Very beautiful, ancient cathedral. Wonderful bells. Great place to stop and admire the architecture with a fresh gelato from around the corner.

I admit my total ignorance: I could not imagine such a beauty in Altamura. By itself would already be worthy a small detour. The façade will leave you breathless, if you love medieval arts. The interiors are the most pleasing barocco I have experienced. Definitely...More

This cathedral was fairly much like many others in the area, apart from the entrance which is very ornate and has 2 large stone lions guarding it.
