This park exceeded my expectations. I was the only visitor at the time, so to have the sprawling site all to myself and undertake it at a leisurely pace, was bliss. The site also offers a lovely view of the bay. Entry was only EURO$4...More

Villas on this site are unusual in that they take advantage of a slope and allow the view over the enclosed gardens to the pre eruption coast line. Worth a visit.

The excavated buildings, dating from the first century BC to the fourth century AD, are structured across seven terraced levels. A lot of the buildings, mosaics and statues are still under water. The ancient Roman city of Baiae, on the northwest shore of the Gulf...More

Thrilling to walk through the beautiful buildings and up and down the steep stairs. I wondered how the poor servants had to run up and down those steps. Take good walking shoes and walk everywhere. You can really go into every room and take in...More

This park preserves a remarkable row of Roman villas and baths, all terraced into the hillside. The elite came here to party and bath in the hot springs during the 1st century BC. It can be hard to visualise how the building would have looked...More

Going there can be quite tricky. We went there with public transport. Take a train from Naples to Fusaro. Leave the station and go right and then right again to a small Tobacco shop (Tabbacheria Illiano Di Lubrano). Here you can buy bus tickets, both...More

Part of The Phlegrean Fields, the entrance fee of €4 covering this and a number of other sites in the area (valid for two days) makes it an enticing offer. While some of the exhibits within the castle are well worth viewing (staff were most...More

The setting, curation, and extensive collection of this museum should place it among the best in the world. There are artifacts from Greek and Roman periods of some 3000 years, including the only known Roman casts of Greek sculptures, used for their own duplication. I...More
