While the Picos de Europa has spectacular scenery the Lakes of Covadonga were not as spectacular as the reviews led me to believe. You will find more spectacular alpine lakes in any of the US National Parks in the Rockies. The most unique aspect of...More

There is a steep and twisty road to the lakes with views from all sides, providing it isn't misty. Expect to dodge cars and cows on the roads there. We eventually broke through the mist to see the surrounding scenery including cows grazing on the...More

We investigated how to 'do' the lakes at the Tourist Information Office in Cangas de Onis. Contrary to other reviewers advice on TripAdvisor, apparently the road from Covadonga up to the lakes is closed to cars on Saturday and Sunday, as it is only open...More

Wonderful day out: the hike around the lakes itself is 8km, but enough paths around to extend this experience. You can drive up to Covadonga and you must take the bus from there (8€ per adult).

Great place to wander around, plenty to see and a few refuges offering refreshments. Weekends can be busy, so go early.

The shuttle bus provided up to the lakes is very convenient as it can get crowded with lots of people. If you get the chance it is definitely worth also visiting the town of Covadonga to see the church, cave and waterfall. The lakes themselves...More

Stung view of the cathedral. Climbed to the Lagos de Covadonga on my bicicle and it was very fogy all the way, lots of cows on the road, impresive views. The stretch with a 15% inclination was very tough to do because of the bus...More

GO EARLY (or late) to avoid the cars on this narrow twisty ride as the cars forget to give way to motorcyclists (vulnerable road users) Once up in the mountains it is an amazing feeling tranquil fresh and green (late September) and the water very...More

Starting by car in the Covadonga village and driving the road ascending from Covadonga to the lakes is also a popular climb in professional road bicycle racing, and is being been used by the “Vuelta a España” many times in the last 25 years. After...More

Hello Natasha! I don’t know about the shuttle times because I went up to the Lakes on my bike, but I highly recommend you stay at the Parador in Cangas de Onis, It’s beautiful place.

Park your car as close to the Basilica & Cave as possible & catch the bus from there, (4-5 parking areas where they also sell your ticket to the bus), quite convinient.

There are buses from the bus station in Cangas every 20 mins. No need to book
