The Carrara Museum is very interesting and the drive up the mountain offers great views of the marble being mined and the views across the valley. Near the museum are shops that will sell all sorts of marble items. If you just want a small...More

The quarries are simply impressive. There are several ways to see them - there are guided tours, and also several hiking trails that either pass through the quarries or offer a nice view of them.

This ride into the quarries where marble for Michangelo’s David statue originated is like a trip back in time. You ride 3,000 feet into the Apuan alps in a 4x4, bumpy to be sure, and the road is twisty and on the edge of the...More

Amazing to see the origins of the marble, and a bit of adventure in the jeeps. The best group tour I've done.

But be careful about your glasses, it is necessary to thoroughly...More

Find the road that takes you to the very top, where the trucks in the pit look like ants. Think of the sculptures and beauty mined here. Fill your mind with every great artist whose work began with this stone and you'll believe in God.

This is a trip up to a marble quarry (we didn't get taken to any caves). You are driven up on very twisty tracks to the site, high on the mountain, where quarrying takes place. The guide explains to you how marble is cut and...More
