About
The greatest of Jamaican great houses, the Rose Hall Great House has a story with all the elements of an engaging novel. Built in 1770 by John Palmer and his wife, it eventually became the residence of their grandnephew, John Rose Palmer. In 1820, Palmer married Annee, a beautiful but feisty English girl. Little did John know that his young wife possessed “black magic” powers that would eventually lead to his demise. During her reign as mistress of the plantation, Annee did away with two more husbands and countless lovers. “The White Witch of Rose Hall” has fascinated generations, and even today, there are those who claim to see Annee passing through the Great House. A candle-lit evening tour of the Rose Hall Great House is a must for visitors to Montego Bay. Your guided exploration of the former home of Jamaica’s White Witch, Annee Palmer, includes captivating and chilling stories of love, murder and mystery skillfully told by knowledgeable guides. You’re sure to feel goose bumps as these eerie tales come to life in this grand estate, where ghost sightings have been reported over the years. Tours also give historic insight into this grandest of Jamaican great houses, now beautifully restored with 18th-century decor and antiques. To conclude this fascinating adventure, you can visit the dungeon, now transformed into a tavern called Annee’s Pub. Many visitors find that the famous rum cocktail, known as “Witches Brew” helps banish the spirits of ghosts or black magic they sense still lingering in the mansion.

Photography can be skipped. Just to warn not easy to walk there. - David DDixon, Missouri261 contributionsA Great Trip for some HistoryEvery vacation my wife tells me I need to learn something, so this was one of the "somethings" for this trip. The tour is really nice, some great history, great antiques, and a great story of Annie. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The house itself is an amazing structure but it's the history that is the real star in my opinion. Also, the views are beyond amazing! It's worth a trip out if you are in the area, I really did enjoy it.Hi Valued Guest, Thank you for sharing your review of the Rose Hall Great House Tour with our Trip Advisor community. - juice_17Derby, United Kingdom23 contributionsAwful, awful, awful….…in the best possible way. We did the tour at night as “something a bit different”. It was great! We booked through Tui and got transfers there and back, but if you’re in the Mo Bay Area it would be just as easy to grab a taxi I would have thought. As soon as we parked up and got off the bus, it was eerie straight away! The staff were lovely all throughout - shout out to our guide Chanelle!! She was brilliant! The tour of the house itself would have been amazing on its own, but all the added “extras” along the way made it! I’ve never screamed and sweated so much at once! 😂 Lots of very tragic history that you’ll learn along the way! Tip - if you are going at night, wear decent shoes, it’s pitch dark in the gardens and uneasy under foot.Hi Valued Guest, Thank you for sharing your review of the Rose Hall Great House Haunted Night Tour with our Trip Advisor community. - jgemzaWhitesboro, New York460 contributionsLandmark needs some repair.Toured the house and grounds of this old and updated landmark. It has a long history of families and questionable accidents or killings on the property. The update was remarkable over 60 years ago and worth a visit. Nevertheless, the building is in need of some maintenance and repair. A nice stop for us on our tour.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 January 2024
- KerryFlorinCape Town Central, South Africa11 contributionsHighly Recommended! We were so pleased to have done this tour. Shana was a truly wonderful guide and told us all the gripping stories associated with Rose Hall. Possibly because we went at midday (a quiet time) we were fortunate enough to be given a private tour which made it very special. We were absolutely fascinated by the rich history, not only of Rose Hall but also of the wider area as well as the brutal slave trade, the plantations and Great Houses, and of Jamaican culture. We learnt SO much. We left with a lot to reflect on and talk about. Don't just sit on the beach, GO TO ROSE HALL!Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 February 2024

This is our fourth visit to this night tour over the years and every time it never disappoints. Sophia was our tour guide this evening and she was so much fun! She was knowledgeable and gave all the history but kept the entertaining parts entertaining and the scary parts even scarier. There are a couple parts of the tour that get in to the history which is tough to hear but, sadly that's the history buy it was provided so well you truly felt what happened in and around this house. The cost is decent compared to a lot of other attractions and it is worth every penny.

Amazing to think Johnny and June and their family made a ton of memories in this stunning house. We were able to take pictures of anything and you could just feel a close presence to the Cash family. Highly recommend. The road going in is a little rough but it’s well worth it when you arrive and you are guided by very knowledgeable people that have done their research.

It was an interesting tour with a well prepared guide. The horror stories were explained well. We had few spare hours to spend that day instead of staying on the beach, and it turned out to be a good trip.

This is one of the best tours I’ve ever been on! For those who are from the UK, scarefest has nothing on Rose Hall!
It’s impossible to not be scared!
The tour is steeped in history and although it’s a haunted night tour you still hear a lot about history, if you want more history and facts then the day tour would maybe suit you better.
We took our 11yr old and he didn’t manage it so be aware it is scary and possibly not suited for under 12yrs although the husband was just as scared lol.
The property and grounds are breathtaking and definitely have the wow factor.
It’s a must for anyone visiting Montego Bay Area.
Sophia our tour guide was so knowledgeable and really made the whole experience amazing!
Please do ensure you take cash to leaves tip for the actors as they did an amazing job.

A very interesting and informative tour of the home of Johnny and June Carter Cash they had in Jamaica. A lot of history, left just as it was when they last lived there. The tour guide was great and we thouroughly enjoyed it. Whether you are a big fan or not, it is worthwhile and very affordable.

Can you just turn up
It looks hard to get into with big closed gates at the front, how do you get in to buy your ticket. Will you just be put on the next tour

if you go with a taxi driver, the guard at the gate lets you in; you buy your tickets at the gift store and the driver drops you off right there. You can call ahead and find out what time the tours are scheduled. We had purchased our tickets at the resort with the intention of going with a group tour but the tour bus did not show up. fortunately, we took our ticket confirmation with us and we were able to use them and our contact person at the resort, reimbursed us for the taxi cost

Do you recommend buying tickets before arriving at port?

I may be too late for you, but we booked everything through Reggae Tours. They drove us to each destination I requested when booking, went up and bought tickets at each stop and got us in. It was wonderful having a private driver all day. Check out my review on their page. Request Kenny for a FUN time!!
But to answer your question- I don’t think you need to get tickets ahead. There was no line and the have multiple guides that take you when you arrive.

Hi, tour is not long 30-45 minutes max. But it’s nice experience. Sea is very close but it’s all resorts at the bottom so you would need to go to Montego Bay to Doctor’s Cave Beach which is 10 minutes drive drive from Rose Hall.
