A must visit: great art, ceramics, architecture, staff
Feb 2020
There are three areas to visit, a contemporary changing art exhibition, an art school, and a wonderful ceramics museum. Be sure to go upstairs for a panoramic view and underground to see the tunnels.

Colorful displays for Dia de Los Muertos
Nov 2019
On Nov 3rd, I was returning from the Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations in Aguascalientes and had a few hours before my flight out of Guadalajara, so I stopped here to check out the exhibits. I had planned to spend about an hour here and then wander the town for another hour. I ended up spending almost two hours in here. Admission was free, and the nice ladies at the entry agreed to let me leave my carry-on at the front desk so that I could wander around unencumbered.
The building housed several rooms with ofrendas (altars) reflecting various themes and subjects of honor surrounded by colorful decor, candles, and detail that provided beautiful photo opps. Other rooms contained art - beautiful paintings, painted skulls and coffins, and skeleton figurines. Outside, the town was celebrating a combination of Dia de Los Muertos and Mitote, a giant street party celebrating indigenous tribal dances. Inside the cultural center, a small group of young teens were dancing, dressed in Aztec ceremonial costumes, and were more than happy to pose for pictures.

The building is beautiful and has a few exhibitions. It's a nice place to enjoy some quiet and sit in the shade for a while.

Mystical place
Jun 2018 • Friends
This used to be a psychiatric hospital there is a night drama/terror play that explains what used to happen there. This is a very recommended tour to take but this is only in Spanish but I think anyone can understand by only watching the play. It is scary but really good.

Honoring People who Contributed to Society
May 2018 • Couples
How lovely to see people sit in the shade around this rotunda that was built to honor those who contributed to society. From workers, insurgents, and intellectuals, it was refreshing to see this monument. Only two women were part of the statues.

Rich in HIstory is an understatement.

Founded by the Catholic Bishop of Guadalajara in the early 19th Century, this palace for housing and raising local orphans covered acres of land, with fountains and magnificent multiple courtyards.
It is now home to revolving art exhibits from around the world, concerts, the Jalisco Ballet several times a year and the most important 'exhibit' the Frescoes of Clemente Orozco - one of the greatest Mexican muralists.

The former chapel and dormitory are covered in some 54 massive frescoes which depict the history of Mexico and the vision of the artist for the future and purpose of humankind.

Admission is almost free, and free one day a week.
It is at the end of the main pedestrian mall in Guad and the whole mall including the Cathedral and the Degollado Theatre deserve a visit as you amble.

A cultural center in a one-time insane asylum
Jan 2018 • Couples
This is an old building of courtyards and small rooms that once housed patients. It's currently used for temporary cultural exhibits and events, which rotate through. When we were there, they had an exhibit of ceramic nativity scenes set up in many of the rooms. These were beautiful and well worth seeing. A student volunteer guided us through it. The cultural center shares this city block with the incredible Museo Premio Nacional de la Cerámica Panteleón Panduro, so you can easily see both at the same time.

This building was once an orphanage and now an art gallery

A remarkably gorgeous building which we always enjoy. The rotating art exhibitions are lovely, and walking through this very statuesque building with Canterra stone pillars is so elegant.
