While initially I thought the museum was closed then I found out I was the only one visitor in the museum. One friendly officer has helped me to show around.
It is beautiful traditional very rich-decorated house from the Ottoman era displaying praying rooms, living rooms, etc. Very worthy to visit even only for 20 minute-ish

Arslan Torun Mansion is an excellent example of what Turkish konaklar looked like in Sinop in the 19th c. Its owner was a man from the Caucasus. A charming museum that teaches people about life in the past. It is really a pity that not more foreigners see this precious sight.

This lovely old house has been filled with artifacts all arranged into elaborate dioramas. You have to take your shoes off or wear those plastic galoshes as you walk around--something I didn't like. It's an interesting thing to see if you're in town.

This mansion belonging to one of the prominent families of Sinop is very well kept and today serves as an interesting ethnoghraphy museum. It's in 10 minutes walking distance from coast line (though on a small hill) and is almost adjacent to many other touristic sites as mosques and archeology museum.
It's located in a big garden. Museum card is valid here too. Life during Ottoman times (19th century) is represented in different chambers together with clothes, accessories, tools etc. There are also old photographs helping to visualize those days. Especially the daily entrance side of the mansion is very impressive.
At the basement, it is said that courses to revive old handcarfts are organized for the public. Yet, there were no one inside the museum other than the security on the day we visited it.
In short, it's a nice place to visit. The only weird aspect is that security lady follows you everywhere you go and stares at you all time....

This and the Museum get a 4 star rating relative to what else is available in Sinop. The Mosque is an early building in 13th century before Domes were built in Mosques and is pre- Ottoman empire?
I would give the Mosque 3 stars. This old mansion has three stories and the basement was the stable which helped warm the house. Most of the living was on the third floor with no doors to the 8 rooms that faced the center room. The mannequin exhibits were well done giving a good sense to the life at that time.

This is an Ottoman mansion with gorgeously painted interior walls and ceilings. Most rooms show mannequins in costume with the furniture of the period. We thought the atmosphere would benefit from appropriate recorded music. An unfortunate choice was to staple a sheet of paper to each and every carpet warning you not to step on it. This made it impossible to get a good photo of any of the carpets. The garden in front of the museum is extraordinary.

This Ottoman house has been restored and furnished as it would have been a hundred years ago. It is not amazing but a nice thing to visit on a cloudy day in Sinop. Don't miss the nice ladies working on looms in the basement who will be happy to demonstrate their craft.

This lovely museum building situated in the middle of Sinop town center. After you spend some time in the beautiful garden, you can visit the museum for lots of precious etnographical artifacts of people of Black Sea Region. If you're in Sinop, I suggest you to visit this museum.

The museum is in an Ottoman era mansion. Wax figures show you how they dressed and lived. Each room focuses on a specific aspect of their lives, such as the Bride's Room, complete with a closet that really was the en-suite shower! Another room reflected the gentlemen's activities with guns, etc. Another contained looms, spinning wheels and such. The paint and decor have been restored, but they kept a small area of the original paint to show the integrity of the restoration. Though small, this was our favorite museum.
On the ground level floor a number of ladies are keeping the weaving tradition alive. There are several looms in use at any given time. Their wares are sold elsewhere, not on site. The ladies were very friendly and told us about their craft.

I have a beautiful wooden model of a gulet that was purchased from a U.S. Navy Admiral's and I am trying to get information about it. It has SINOP as the name of the boat written on the back and sides. The sails and hull are made of wood. The Admiral was commander of the Mediterranean fleet and it may have been a thank you gift when he left. Do you know anything about these models? I bought it after I visited Turkey
and think it is too well done to be a tourist item.

Hi, yes probably it has been produced by a woodcarving artist in Sinop. There are many people dealing with this art in Sinop. But it is not one of the pieces of Ethnography museum. If I can manage I will try to add a picture of a show window of a wooden gulet shop.
