Arthur allegedly pulled Excalibur from a stone in the 5th century, long before Ermo Rotonda di Montesiepi was constructed, in 1185AD. This is the purported site of San Galgano’s death, in 1181. The Rotonda chapel was restored in 1924 and retains the peculiar medieval shape...More

The church is not very big but the sword in the stone is fascinating. The round construction and brick decoration is pretty neat too. There's a cafe nearby.

All the legends about this sword are very impressive. Although I must say that they should change the plastic glass over the sword because at the moment you see mostly scratches and glares instead of the sword itself. Not telling about trying to take a...More

Obviously where the tale of the sword in the stone arose. Very quiet and serene church. Worth a walk around the abbey and in the woods before hand. Dan Brown should visit some time as definitely a feel of the Knights Templar here

Sword encased by San Galgano that was a knight from Chiusdino. He embedded his own sword as a symbol of peace to definitely give up arms and begin a new life in faith as a hermit at Hermitage of Monte Siepi.

This real story seems like a fairy tale but when the noble knight Galgano Guidotti decided to dedicate his life to God in 1180, he sticked his sword into this rock to symbolize peace and redention. Now this sword looks like a cross. One of...More
