The Cava di Bauxite is the result of bauxite (used in the production of aluminium) having been extracted in the past. When the sun is on the sides and on the water it is attractive. Finding it is not easy as it's not well sign-posted...More

The Cava di Bauxite is a beauty lost in the middle of nowhere. The colours are amazing and you can enjoy it in a calm and peaceful atmosphere for there is not traffic or cities close.

This is a rain fill lake created by an open pit bauxite mine. The earth around is reddish with nice contrasts. Very difficult to get to - your GPS will give up or take you around for ever.

The city has a pretty center with the famous mosaics in the cathedral worthwhile. The setting is very nice, with the old city walls opening up towards the seat

Cava di Bauxite is worth a visit even if you do have to pay for parking in a field! Easy walking access and strange to find this place with its amazing colours in the middle of a farmers field

Reminds me if Mars (even though I've never being there), watch the round pebbles that can be quite slippery underfoot. Red soil really stands out, but to be perfectly honest, the lake was a normal colour so it looked quite ordinary.

Beautiful also the rocky beach to the side. Park and walk to the sea. The area deserves a day of excursion with dinner at Otranto.
