Lovely and indeed reminding me of a visit to Turkey and Egypt. Small streets a lot to see, but there the resembles stops the smell is different. And here we have a streetmap!

Cisternino is a beautiful town. Everything is white and very Italian, you pass peoples doorways all along the streets and there are great coffee and eating spots. The architecture is beautiful too and there are lots of information boards. This isn't a tourist area- just a flavour of real Puglia,

A beautiful white city with narrow streets remaining about Venice, Arab Casbah and Greece. Fantastic views over the Valle d'Itria.

This town won the most beautiful city in Italy some years back with many narrow streets and interesting churches

This small town is worth seeing & spending an hour or two to wander the narrow streets. It clearly deserves the moniker of one of Italy's most beautiful & picturesque villages!!

This is a near perfect example of a town in the "heel" of Italy. Small enough in size to see it all in a couple of hours plus dining time. Quaint white washed houses with many steps and narrow walks in old section Locals choose their meat from a butcher type display, mostly grilled meats. Ice cream in main square is organics, and do try basil gelati. The overlook has a great view of surrounding region.

I was told night life has dancing but people wear headsets so town is silinet. Wish i'd seen that.

Find it hard to give support to a tourist town which is fascistic. They display their anti foreigner posters throughout the town, stare you down and refuse to smile. Extremely uncomfortable. Restaurants either overpriced or under quality. Can't wait to leave. Feel like we fell into the twilight zone.
On a positive note, the historical old town was quaint and pretty.

this small village is a nice place during the day and the evening.
In the old part it's nice to walk and eat in the evening.
People are friendly.

Most of the time it's easy to find parking

We stayed for 5 weeks on the outskirts of Cisternino in a Trulli house (Villa Olive), 5 minutes drive from the Centro Storico (Historic Centre) . We did not really realise what a good selection of town we had made until we got here. Every-one was so friendly and helpful, and surprisingly many people spoke some English, from the ladies at Supermarket Olive, at Bar Fod (great coffee), the wine shop Il Cucco and Angela at the Wind store for our SIM card / telephone needs. The market on Monday had friendly stall holders - we don't speak Italian but that was no problem with them, they were kind to us. Cisternino is at the centre of all the best towns to visit - we can recommend the baroque marvel that is Martina Franca, touristy but fascinating Alberobello with its Trulli houses, Ostuni and the gorgeous Locorotondo. Further afield at just over 1 hours drive is Lecce, a must visit city with amazing baroque architecture and Bari the capital of Puglia. Experiencing the nightmare of parking and traffic in Ostuni, we were glad that we chose Cisternino - small enough to be quiet but big enough to have all the services you require - a good computer store (our battery died) fabulous restaurants and bars, and wonderful bread, cheese and pasta shops.
