Yes, it is high but it worth every drop of your sweat. A beatifull view, meadow full of flowers and a great lunch in Rocca Roccardia on the way back.

We visited this site in late October, as the leaves were turning for autumn. We drove up the *winding* roads from Loro Ciuffenna with a vague idea of getting as far us as the Croce, which we could see from the village. After looking up mountain for a week, we thought we should give it a try. Coming from Loro is not the direct way, and the roads are tight, sometimes ill-repaired, and then dirt for several KM. Coming in from the north has much better roads (we drove back that way). When we arrived at the parking lot, the wind was blowing probably 100Km/hr, and we could barely stand up, but we walked the ~1Km to the top, snapped our pictures, and headed down. The view was fantastic, and the history (which we read about in a small tavern at the road fork where one goes up to the parking area) was interesting.

We were just about the only ones there, but I imagine it could be crowded on a nice summer day! It's worth a trip if you are in the area.

This is a beautiful journey driving up the mountainside and it is an easy hike for almost anyone. Be prepared for the livestock that graze around the area of the cross but the view makes it all worth it!

Had to drive for over an hour from nearest village on narrow often unmade roads to a picnic area, then walk the final 500 metres to the Cross, really worth it for the spectacular views of Tuscany.
Go on a clear day as hill can be covered in cloud
