This was the most beautiful tranquil place that I have visited. The monks were chanting while we sat outside it was truly mesmerising

Not the most impressive abbey you have visited, but quite peaceful and located on beautiful grounds with gorgeous views. The interior of the church is a bit of a surprise - baroque style (which in my view is too rich and ornate for a monastery,...More

An active, working abbey set in an idyllic setting. Frescoes around main cloister depicting life of St. Benedict are spectacular. Church, refectory, library and other rooms still in use almost made me want to take vows. Entire abbey is pervaded by sense of peace. Opening...More

An active Benedictine abbey nestled in the woods. Beautiful estate on the mountainside. Too bad there’s no one around who can explain the interesting frescos that line the interior walls of the cloister courtyard. I’m sure some were about the life of St. Benedict, the...More

Its a spectacular piece of architecture and art. We stayed for Vespers and heard the monks pray in latin singing in the Gregorian tradition. What an unbelievable experience that was. Worth the visit.

This monastery is a lovely place to visit to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle. It is a collection of beautiful buildings tucked away from the main road. If you time your visit well you can listen to the Benedictine monks' Gregorian...More

The abbey and grounds are on a hilltop in the countryside not far from Motalcino. It is a large structure situated in olive groves and vineyards. The centrepiece and highlight (for me) is the colonnaded courtyard surround by frescoes depicting the life of Saint Benedict....More

In the Siennese hills of Tuscany is this beautiful monastery. The first time I attended, many years ago on a Sunday, the mass was being performed to a totally packed audience; we could only get inside a few feet of the doors. It was also...More

I believe our visit was on a Tuesday with Roberto. I remember the pickup was early morning, perhaps 8 or so? It was part of a full day of touring.
