Definitely worth going up to appreciate the 360 degree views of the Tuscan countryside. Looped walkway around towers - entrance is via the wine shop, pay at the counter inside.

No fee to walk inside the fort and the grounds. If you want to go up to the tower and walk the wall there is a fee. You can get some wonderful views even if you don't go up to the wall. It's worth your...More

Montalcino is a hill town, like Montepuciano and others. The view from the city is very beautiful. Many places to see, stores to buy, and restaurants.

Before eating and drinking at the Fortezza we took a tour of the Fortezza. There is not much in the rooms, but there are good views of the surrounding area on a nice day. It's worth a quick stop.

In 2016, the Fortezza underwent extensive restorations and emerged in 2017 with a new lease on life. It is an interesting stop along the way, particularly for those that love historical travel. After all, from this fort Montalcino was the only Siena-aligned hilltown to successfully...More

If you visit this spot, spend the extra 4Euro to gain entrance to the walk at the top of the fortress. From there, you will see the glorious expanse of the Tuscan country side as if you were in a balloon.

Was debating whether to go to the fort but glad we did. The views were amazing and it was fun to walk up a tower and around the top of the fort imagining what it would have been like. Worth the small price to go...More
