We returned here to do some wine tasting. The staff are very friendly and the wines are excellent. The enoteca has a huge selection but don't fall for the patter. The prices have ridiculous mark ups. One example is Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova 2010....More

The upper courtyard of the fort offers spectacular views. The walls are not high and you can sit on the wall, eat, and enjoy the views. A high point, in both senses of the word, of Montalcino.

For just 4 euro you get to climb up and walk around the ramparts for amazing views of the area. You can also have a drink and a quick bite in the bar.

The enoteca in the Fortezza provides tasting of many of the wineries in the Montalcino area. We have returned every time we are in Montalcino. The Fortezza itself is a small fort overlooking Montalcino and is well worth the visit.

You can see the same views for free - having said that it is the focal point of Montalcino so worth a visit (€4 per person)

This fort is still around and solid. These forts are amazing and I believe the trapezoidal indentations are for the archers to defend the fort. Walked around the top parapet and the views are tremendous.

We parked our car in front of the Fortezza. It is an optimal place for parking. Before entering the village we visited the Fortezza, it is just adjacent to the village. This is a nice ancient fortress, but we spent just 15 minutes in there...More

You can visit the courtyard of the fortress at the top of Montalcino for free, which is quite interesting, but the walk around the walls is the real attraction. You access them through the bar, wine shop in the far corner where there's a staircase up....More

Enter to the wine shop and pay for the entrance to the fortress walls the provide panoramic views of the area. Afterwards, find some pizza and drink some Brunello!
