Another ceramic craftsman shop that capitalizes on the topography of the Amalfi coast that provides the elements for producing perfect ceramics namely: mountain water, earth rich in clay and volcanic content is Ceramic Solimene. The exterior itself is somewhat of a ceramic masterpiece as this storefront is covered in stripes of orange and green ceramics and glass.
Inside, pieces are just as elaborate with an array of hand painted ceramics that range from fruit patterns to cobalt blue depictions of the sea.

If you need to make a find, this is it. I spoke to the owner, who told me that they produce for many hotels, shops and restaurants on the Amalfi Coast, but also worldwide. For example. Restaurant Novikov, which is an exclusive restaurant in London, but also Casa Amalfi, which sells small soaps and soap dishes in tourist shops in Amalfi and Positano. The things you find in the shop are second sortiment.

The staff don't care about tourists as tourism is a tiny part of their turnover.

The place is interesting - worth a visit, but only briefly.

The whole building looks imposing from the outside as it is the museum we are going to visit. Inside, alas, seems somehow neglected. The items have no prices, they look dusty, very few people work in the building, they look worried and deceived. Overall impression: I think Solimene will close in a couple of years.

Here's my rebuke to folks who do not like the pieces arriving broken. I had this happen, as well, but guess who broke it? American customs agents inspecting the pieces and then not showing enough respect to the addressee by repackaging it properly. Don't blame Solimene. I have yet to see a more careful packaging of merchandise since buying perhaps as many as 25 items from them some years back. True, all that cardboard was not exactly eco-friendly, but it is the American manhandling brought on by smuggling, drug dealing, suspicious border and customs agents. All in all, I love this place. But then again I speak Italian and have been around artists my whole life. Also, be aware a lot of copies of their designs are sold internationally (you can tell because they are horrendous copies of the originals.)

If you are looking for cheaper ceramics, this is the place. you will find reasonable and cheap ceramics but the cheaper once are not perfect, they are sold as imperfects. slightly better quality ones are inside and when asked they will show you around. so depends on what you are after. Its hard to find sets as they all vary in colour or pattern. So if you have the patience to stack and unstack plates or bowls you might be able o find something. the place does not have any cheap decoration pieces it is mainly tableware.

The place was overwhelming, staff indifferent and our visit was very short! Had more fun in the little streets of the town.
We thought it was a long drive from Positano for what we did. In fairness, none of us were collectors of Vietri ceramics so there was that

My family had a very disappointing experience with Ceramica Solimene. Ordered a few sets of plates in July 2018 with the promise that they would be shipped to the USA by the end of October. Months passed by and not only they have not received their plates but also got contradictory or vague information or no response at all when repeatedly contacting them over email or phone to follow up on their order. Terrible customer service. Actually, no service at all.

We were cautiously optimistic about our visit there. We bee-lined it for solemene, passing many ceramic stores along the way. What we discovered on arriving at solomene was what many others describe: dinnerware on the floor stacked high. It is after all, a working warehouse and factory, so the idea of rifling through plates and such was no problem.
Upon examination of many of the plates though, the craftsmanship was very poor, like a kindergartner had fingerpainted each of them. No detail, no imagination, just what should properly be described as junk. For those who review their products highly, I cannot imagine how low their bars are set for craftsmanship. I was very disappointed. You can get other vietri ceramics at other stores nearby, and though a little more expensive, the quality is much higher. If you’re going to carry ceramics back to your home in your own country, then buy something of quality. See solomene if you must, but you’ll see what I mean when you get there. Happy shopping!
