Beautiful and calm place to explore walking… you can take your picnic with you to this place since around the lakes there are some benches to seat and enjoy the scenery. You l can drive or you can take a bus but not sure how often is the bus. Sofa are allow…The parking cost €5 for all day.
There are 2 lakes you can walk from one to the other lake. There are some restaurants around the lake to eat and rest. They have portable toilets if you are in need.
L there is a mini market around the car park some people sell honey, salami, cheese etc

I visited (for the second time) the Fusine lakes and their basin, in the middle of March. And I was struck because at the moderate height of the lakes (less than 1000 mts.) winter still reigned: deep snow almost everywhere, almost all of the Upper Lake and half of the Lower Lake still frozen. Not to mention the basin upstream of Upper Lake, surrounded to the south by the massif of Mount Mangart: uniformly covered with snow, while the slopes and the trees of the massif were everywhere sprinkled with fresh snow, as if we were in January instead of early spring.
Climatologists explain to us that this is due to the particular microclimate of the area: open to the north, and also to the east to the cold winds coming from Slovenia, it is completely closed to the south by the natural walls of Mangart. It's then no strange that the municipality of Fusine records the lowest minimum temperatures in Italy almost every winter.
Nevertheless, even this feature of the area, of "Siberia of Italy", has its advantages. If you are looking for cold in winter, you will certainly find it here. In the past, a cross-country ski trail was created in the basin under the Mangart, which no longer exists; the climate guaranteed the availability of the track for many months.
Then let's consider the beauty that is added to the panorama by the two small water bodies, albeit not so deep. Some of the most evocative landscapes of the region can be enjoyed here, just a few Kms from the Tarvisio ski resort.

Even when the weather wasn't very beautiful, the lakes were very impressive. We visited in March and there were only a few people there, which made it a very calming experience. The lakes, the sight of the mountains and the fresh air were amazing. I loved being here.

Beautiful in wintertime, just after 4 days of heavy snowfall. Be aware that in snow conditions you may need snow chains. We left the car lower down the road and walked last 30-45 minutes to the lakes though.

Drove up after a stop close by.. the lakes were featured on a ident for Eurovision 2022. Parking is free for electric cars, else was around 4 euros. Parked close to the weir on the lower lake.
Walked around the lower lake and up to the upper lake which looked low in volume.
Both have amazing views…

Came back the following day and spent all day by the side of the lower lake.

We walked from the parking lot to the lower and upper lake. Easy but adventurous path through the woods with beautiful views! Definately worth a visit.

We've been here in winter and the landscape is breathtaking: inferior lake in 80% iced, mountains are full of snow, amazing!!! An advice: you need winter shoes with spikes...in the woods there are a must!

The lakes and the mountains behind give a great view of this stunning landscape. We took the hike around the lakes which is comfortable and safe to manage. A few snack bars and restaurant are also inviting to have a rest and enjoy the outdoors. In our case it was Sunday with great weather and refreshing drinks and food.
