More geysers and fumaroles and springs and colors and walkways and many many people with cameras and phones.

Incredible Geothermal Pools
Sep 2021
Norris Geyser Basin is a wonderful series of geothermal pools located on the west side of Yellowstone. It can be viewed via footpaths and boardwalks. Each pool has its own appearance and character (and sometimes odor.)

I would go early to avoid the heat and parking problems
Jun 2021 • Family
This area was really fun. We got there early, like 7am, so we had zero issues with parking! We only had time to do Back Basin and we did the whole loop, which probably took us almost an hour with kids and lots of stops. We loved seeing all the different geysers, springs, pools, and other thermal activity along the walkway. It was very neat to see so many different things so close. Be aware, there is no cover along the walk, so it can get very hot depending on the time of day you go and if you do the full loop it can take a considerable amount of time. So, don’t forget to put on your sunscreen and pack your water! It’s also very smelly over here, our daughter hated it! 🤣

Awesome

The Norris Geyser Basin is an excellent area to see the hydrothermal activity of Yellowstone. The boardwalks make the area easy and safe to visit.

Easily walkable
Aug 2021
My first view of the heat and splendor that is Yellowstone. We were very glad to get out of the car and look around at what would prove to be only the intro to the experience of a lifetime.

Parking Nightmare
Jul 2021
Parking was a little difficult as this area was crowded. There are several different geysers in the area and plenty of walking trails. There is also a museum to visit. Not totally sure that the area is worth the parking nightmare though.

Cool lake views
Jun 2021
This was a throw in on our way to Tetons. The Lake added something to the springs and pools. Nice quick stop.

Too crowded to find parking
Jun 2021
This must be a very popular attraction for Yellowstone. The main parking area as well as both overflow parking areas were full so we didn't get to see it. We stopped at the overlook just beyond the Norris Geyser Basin but saw nothing so skip the lookout

You can do better than we did!
Aug 2020
These are the things I wish I had known before visiting the Norris Geyser Basin:
1. Parking can take awhile. The lot closest to the trail was backed up when we visited so we waited a long time for a spot. We should have parked on the main road and walked to the entrance.
2. Wear very comfortable walking shoes. These loops are long and you want to complete both.
3. Go to the bathroom before you start walking the trails.
4. Bring more water than you think you need. The summer heat along with the steam from the geysers can begin to take a toll.
5. You may want to bring along a snack to make the time spent on the trails more enjoyable.
The variety of geysers was impressive and the hike was great. Taking the trails in the mid-day sun was a bit much for us. Hopefully you will do a better job than we did!

While the Porcelain Loop is perhaps the more colorful and interesting of the two loop trails, the Back loop is not to be missed.
