The Mass with Tonga choir and servers was an uplifting experience. It proves the Catholic Mass is the same no matter what culture. The choir accompaniment in the tonga language and their cultural dress was a learning experience.I f you want to experience a moving Mass I recommend Saint Augustine.

If you are visiting Hawaii during the Christmas season and desire to attend mass take an opportunity to visit St. Augustine by the Sea. St. Augustine is a lovely church community that was established in 1854. I have visited this church a few times while on vacation in Oahu, Hawaii. I have immensely enjoyed all the times I attended mass. The Tonga choir provides beautiful music during the mass. In addition, the congregation always provides a warm welcome to visitors. I have not had an opportunity to attend mass with Father Lane as the celebrant however, I have seen him via Facebook Live and he is indeed an exceptional priest who is committed to Native Hawaiians and all other people. Father Lane is a gem! During our visit this summer we met another phenomenal priest whose message was a simple yet powerful one. He explained that we only live once so make sure to live a life that makes a positive impact on the lives of others. If you are fortunate enough to spend Christmas in Waikiki, take a moment to visit St. Augustine by the Sea. I am certain you will enjoy your visit. Mass on Christmas Eve will take place at 5:00pm and 9:00pm.

Beautiful Catholic Church since 1854. We attended the Sunday 10:00 am Mass which the choir sang in Hawaiian in traditional Hawaiian clothing and garments. Very lovely indeed. The 10 am Mass was somewhat crowded with occupancy maybe 85-90%. St. Augustine By The Sea is a lovely church and excellent architectural stop to view or pray.

Always a great blessing to be able to attend Mass at St Augustine's! I was hoping to be able to attend the Mass where the Tongan Choir sings, as we enjoyed that so much on our last trip. The choir now sings at 10:30am on Sunday, so we missed them this time around. Beautiful church decorated for Pentecost, with welcoming parishoners and clergy. Fr. Lane is a humble, wonderful pastor/priest. May God continue to bless this parish!

Beautiful Church and an excellent priest. The music during the post Christmas season was fantastic and the music director has a magnificent voice. Recommend to anyone looking for a great mass along the shore.

Beautiful Catholic church opposite the beach. Masses in English. Check website for mass times. Mass on Sunday night at 5pm had a piano player and singer who was excellent. God bless this church, its parishoners and the priests.

There are other Catholic churches in Honolulu so Google if you miss a mass at this church.

Beautiful church. Visited for Easter Sunday Mass. It was PACKED!!!! Over 1000 people there; standing room only. I give this a 4/5 as it is VERY VERY hot in this church. On a Sunday or a holiday, it is always very hot. To the point of feeling lightheaded and sweating through your dress. People are not always the nicest when it comes to seating especially for someone who is handicapped. But it is a tourist church. Right in the heart of Waikiki. Parking at the church is atrocious. Park at the zoo and walk the block or two instead. Much easier option. Great faith community though. Great priest. Choir was incredible on Easter. Multiple collections so bring your purse (or don’t;). Lots of faith.

Visited this beautiful Catholic Church in Oahu, HI. It was an amazing mass with Hawaiian music. The priest, alter servers and some parishioners were barefoot! The mass was said in English with some Hawaiian songs. Beautiful stained glass windows and architecture.

We visited this church with son( he lives in Honolulu) of our neighbor back home as his parents would go here for mass when staying in Honolulu. Why Burger King was allowed to build in front of church is beyond me. Can still see upper glass area of church from the park across the street. Lit candles for deceased family.

We went to Sunday evening mass at 5pm and expected just a normal Catholic Mass, were we in for a suprise. To start out, the entrance hymn was sung in one of the Polynesian languages without any instruments. What a treat that was! The next unique occurance was that all of the choir and the servers were wearing Hawaiian grab including the priest. The music continued to all be in that same Polynesian language and it was so wonderful to hear the sweet soft songs being sung by about 20 members of a native choir. After mass we talked with the choir members and learned that EVERY Sunday at the 5pm mass they sing and have done so for over 20 years. This is a MUST hear. By the way this is the ONLY church that is still on Waikiki Beach.
