Great museum to spend a few hours
Great museum to spend a few hours. They have a very diverse collection including modern art and art from across the globe. The building itself is also really nice. Definitely worth spending a few hours.

    Excellent experience
Just recently went this last Wednesday when it opened at 10am. It was not crowded and had a lot to see. The feature exhibit was interesting. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Met some wonderful ladies in the gift shop made a purchase as well. I wasn’t able to comeback to the jazz show later on that evening maybe next time.

    A good afternoon among art
This is an excellent art museum. The permanent collections include great works of art including Monet, Cezanne, Modigliani, Van Gogh, and De Chirico. When you consider that these paintings had to make ocean crossing in some cases, it is good to see that they survived the trip. Also notable are the Asian collections. There is a very nice cafe and also a coffee place. The grounds are gorgeous, with tranquil places to sit. The museum is bigger than it looks from the street, and is right on a bus line. I would not take kids younger than 10, unless they are really into art museums.

Such a nice way to spend an afternoon.
We spent just over an hour here before getting on the shuttle to the Shangri-La. A really amazing museum, lovely to walk around and really well laid out. Great little cafe for a refreshing cold drink and bite to eat too before heading to the Shangri-La. Give yourself more time than we did though as there is so much to see and take in.

One of the best local city art museums in the country.
I love this art museum. Every time I come to the islands I try to visit. The permanent collection is always good to have a look see and the temporary exhibits are always interesting, creative and informative. Definitely have lunch at the on-site restaurant ( the curried turkey salad is excellent) and check out the great gift shop and their Koa wood mini surfboard bookmarks.

    Bad parking for wheelchair users.
My visit started with a negative, the car park is not connected to the museum. I am a solo wheelchair user, and had to wheel myself up the car park (which is on an incline) to pay, then along an uneven footpath, across two roads, and then up another footpath as the disabled entrance is at the side of the building. Because of where the car park is, I assumed that the building next to it was the museum, it wasn’t, it is the museum of art college! Thankfully, a really pleasant woman, a lecturer I assume, was quite happy to push me to where I needed to be, all the way, what a lovely, lovely lady. She then made sure I knew which way I needed to go to get back to my car. It is for this reason that I have given this review four stars, the rest of my experience was positive, a vet interesting museum, AND wheelchair friendly.

    Great Museum
This museum is great. There is a large collection of Asian art and artifacts and many more items, including Hawaiian art/fashion, modern art, and a few European paintings (e.g., Monet, Van Gogh). I was pleasantly surprised with the number of items to see - I was in the museum for about three hours. I highly recommend a trip to this museum if you find yourself in Honolulu.

HOMA is a hidden Gem in Honolulu!
We are art museum people and when I found out there was a Monet waterlily there we put it on our list. Although small, it does have a wide variety of different art work and is in a pleasant setting. Parking is easy to find and $5. It's closed Monday & Tuesday and you can make reservations online or walk in.

Incredible art collection amongst serene courtyards
This museum absolutely blew me away. The low-profile, unassuming facade tricks you as is almost blends into the bustle of downtown Honolulu. Yet, step inside to find the most austere, contemplative, thoughtfully curated galleries of Hawaiian, Asian and world art galleries built around tranquil courtyards. The art is themed beautifully by nation of origin so you really get a sense of place while enjoying the artworks. Rotating exhibits keep things fresh: I enjoyed the temporary exhibition celebrating Aloha-wear and the textile history that led up to its birth. The gift shop and cafe at HoMa are terrific as well - don’t miss this on your next trip to Honolulu!

This is a modest sized museum consistent with what one would expect for a city the size of Honolulu, with a wide range of exhibits. The big attraction, by far, is taking the trip out to the Shangra-la/Duke Mansion, which is worth the price of admission to the Museum istelf. Frankly, for the price of admission, I don't know that I'd go to the museum on its own, but in combination with the Duke mansion, it's a winner.

We only visited for a short time but had a delicious lunch in the cafe and saw the modern art and impressionist galleries. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we were not able to join the Shrangrila Tour. There should be more tours to this place as going via the Gallery is the only way to see this now.

We spent a fun Friday evening in downtown Honolulu, as we utilized the bus service from our hotel. Our initial stop was at a downtown brewery, and then we migrated to this lovely art museum before a cocktail night at Bar Leather Apron. The artwork provided a nice respite between our libations, and it made us wishing that we had more time. However, it was pertinent to have reservations for our meals.

The museum provided lockers for our belongings, and the exhibits offered a valuable insight into the history of indigenous cultures in relation to Hawaii.

This is a beautiful building with architectural style, which incorporates Hawaiian, Chinese, and Spanish influences. Each courtyard is quite serene. The collection is eclectic never boring. Museums can be overwhelming this one is just perfect for style and content. Had lunch at the coffee shop excellent. The museum store has quality stuff, I bought several items. Well maintanied and taken care of.....thanks staff!

The museum doesn’t look big but once you get in there and move through the exhibits you will find you new a good 3 hours to take it all in. 18 and under is free. $20.00 for adults. It was free for military as a part of the blue star museum program. Each exhibit focuses on a different region. There is much religious art from all of the various groups and cultures. You can also see the big US/European names like Monet, Van Gogh, Remington and Gilbert Stuart. See all kinds of cultural art through history in almost every medium. It really is a very impressive and diverse collection. If you appreciate art and it’s cultural expression, don’t miss this gallery. Just about every region is represented.

We went to take a tour of their Shangra La Museum which included the Museum of Art also. What a fabulous place that is passed by so many people looking at only the sun. The exhibits and architecture are wonderful. It is worth the time.

I was pleasantly surprised by the extent of the collection considering the size of the museum! Thoughtfully laid out. Lovely pieces.
It is a Blue Star museum so military and dependents are free for some of the year and then get the resident rate the rest of the year.

I love museums and never miss an opportunity to visit one. This museum was very cool and had several exhibits showcasing a plethora of art. The museum is separated by rooms and sections which makes it easier to follow along with the history of each section. I would definitely return and the gift shop has a lot of unique souvenirs.

Would highly recommend. The building itself is spectacular - with inner courtyards that just ask for you to sit and reflect in. The exhibits are multiple and not overly full of pieces - that you can enjoy what you are seeing. Try to find the native Hawaiian pieces.

Take a little time in the heart of Honolulu and examine some of the wonderful world art set in a wonderful venue. Go in the morning, experience the art and then have a wonderful lunch in the museum's open air cafe. A really refreshing way to spend a few hours.
