Overview
More
With more than 8,500 animals on 56 acres, there's plenty of fun for the whole family. The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest.

We visited on a Saturday around 1 or so, the price seems to be the average of zoo's. Once we entered it looked very well kept and up to date, once we entered though things changed. There were several exhibits without animals and also several...More

We were able to go a little earlier to see the animals in the light, catching most of the exhibits in about 2-3 hours. Once the sun went down, it did get a little chilly so headed in to eat before the lights festivities began....More

We enjoyed seeing the different animals, and exploring the zoo. The scenery was pretty. We did not get to see the bear, and some other animals because they were not out at the time.

Spent the best part of a day here - animals appear well cared for and well housed. Food / drinks expensive, but then they always are for a captive audience.

Enjoyed the Zoo for the Christmas lights in the evening. We got there a little earlier to view the animals and the other attractions. Very nice layout; easy to navigate. It was a little cold, so many of the animals were in their heated dens....More

The zoo had many good exhibits. What I liked the most was that I went during December they had, at night, a seasonal Christmas-y light display called "Zoo Lights" throughout a good portion of the zoo. It was definitely a family favorite.

I would recommend arriving no later than 11:00 am, since dusk starts early ( 5:00 ish). You can even take time for a quick lunch.
