With more than 8,500 animals on 56 acres, there's plenty of fun for the whole family. The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest.

We visited years ago and it was different than I remembered - smaller. We got there right after they opened and we were somewhat disappointed that some animals were not out yet to see. There is a good variety of animals but not as many...More

It was a beautiful day ay the zoo. The exhibits were nice and well taken care of. I would have loved to feed the giraffes, but I'll be sure to do that next trip.

We came on one of the hottest days of the year...not smart. But we made the most of it by ducking into the Beastro when we needed a break. Price is right, and plenty to do. I did feel like some of the animals needed...More

Yes, once you leave you will need to depart at the Exit Gate. Tell the attendant that you want to return back, they will stamp you. Then you may re-enter the same day without paying again.
