Our first time to a nude beach and we loved it! Had to wait for it to open in the morning and ended up talking to some very friendly "regulars", who made my wife and I feel right at home.
Once we got in, it felt very comfortable to just take it all off! My wife loved the feeling of being free from her swimsuit and we felt no judgement or stares from anyone else on the beach.
Warning: the waves can be strong here!
Can't wait to go back!

This is secluded. Go to big beach and head north and hike over a little hill. It has good waves for swimming. Not too crowded. They now enforce a 4pm closure time here. Great vibe and everyone was chill. Very safe.

Exciting! X rated. Not for children. Wonder display of uninhibited sun worshipping on Sunday nights.

The beach once used to be a secret sanctuary for the lgb2q community now all homophobic conservatives and conservatives in the closet.
Bizarre situation watch out for homeless snatching your bags.
Enjoy carefully

Little Beach requires you to hike over a hill to get to it from Big Beach. Its very quiet and laid back with less people. This is probably mostly due to it being clothing optional. People mostly kept to themselves and were just enjoying the water and the sun. There is a section on the far side with lava rocks that is cool to see. Sunset is great here too, better than on Big Beach.

This beach is not for everyone, but if you like to swim naked and lay on warm sands in the Maui sun, this is a best spot on the Hawaiian islands. Some folks are nude and some are not, but everyone has a fine time. Very gay friendly. Loved it.

A secluded little piece of paradise in Makena State Park on the south Maui shores. This beach is clothing optional on a small crescent of sand over a lava rock hill from Big Beach. The only way into the beach is by this trail over the foot of Puu Olai cinder cone. Gorgeous tropical setting in a horseshoe shaped bay around from Makena Landing Beach.

There's a bit of a climb over rock, but if you like 'lots of sun' on your body, this is the spot. Surfers like this beach; there are frequently turtles; and, it's a relaxing spot on Maui.

Visited Little Beach mid-week around 4 PM. About the half the folks were gay men and the remainder were heterosexual-couples (like us), families, or singles of both genders. Most, but not all, were exercising the 'optional' part of clothing. Everyone was chill, spaced apart, and respectful. No gawkers or weirdos, The most PDA we saw from nearly everyone was simply holding hands. A few curious (and fully dressed) tourists did a walk through but soon left. However one exhibitionist hetero-couple chose to not seek a private spot and instead had sex where nearly everyone could see them. They then proceeded to conduct a nude photoshoot. On the whole though it is a lovely beach that offers privacy for the naturist in us all. Will visit again.

For years when we visit Maui, Little Beach is our almost daily destination. We book our lodging accordingly so we are close to it. We were there yesterday, a hostile metal gate was installed on the little climb to the beach. The new closing hours are week days at 7pm and weekends at 4pm. This shouldn't be allowed since Hawaii beaches are all publicly accessible and open 24 hours daily. We still enjoyed our 2 hour relaxation, but felt almost violated. Also, be aware there is a charge of $10 per vehicle and $5 per person to enter the park now for non-Hawaii residents. We parked on the road and hiked in. There is a sign to ask you to download an app so you can pay online. There is also a kiosk closer to the beach in the parking lot.

What are the trail conditions?
Our first visit was in 2010 and all of the sand had scoured away during a storm and the trail was quite the adventure.
Next time we went was 2 or 3 years later and it was an easy walk to the cleft to go up and over.

Very easy little climb up the cliffs. Going there is not a problem, but if you leave it when it’s dark it’s a little dangerous. Make sure you have a flashlight available.

What time should I go to Little Beach?

If by "time" you mean time of day I recommend early in the morning. That way you can pick out a spot you like! We would usually arrive about 10AM and hang until sunset. That being said if you arrive in the afternoon the beach is usually busy and full of people. Therefore, you can pick out a spot by people you think might be fun and interesting.
If you mean time of year I suggest January/February since the sand is cooler and the whales swim very close to shore. The beach is very nice this time of year!!

Depends on what time you'd like to be there. We found people are usually staking out their territory around 10-ish. And many have umbrellas - a good choice for the "parts" you don't want sunburned. Bring a picnic lunch and just enjoy yourself!

Sundays at sunset. A little bit like Mardi Gras in the sand. Be sure to take care not to leave anything of value on your beach towel. (The party can get quite raucous). Having a small flashlight (or your mobile phone flashlight if you have one) to get back down to Big Beach via the lava tube/path is a great idea.
Where do you ask taxi driver to take you. Do you say little beach?

It depends on what time of day you want to visit. If you are visiting during daylight hours, then park in the first parking lot to Big Beach. That parking lot closes at 7:45 p.m. If you are interested in the nightlife that goes on at Little Beach, then do not park in the Big Beach parking lots! Park on the street, take your flashlight, and find a trail to little beach. There are tons of people that do this, so you won't get lost...just follow someone else.

Update to my question, Will be on a cruise that stops in Lahaina. Do I need to rent a car or is there transportation there?
C W

oh yeah - Rent a car or find a friend with one. It's a good ride from Kahului to Kihei and then you have to get to Wailea. From there you head south down the coast a good distance and turn off on dirt roads - No Public Transport unless you have bags of gold for a taxi and then the wait. If you have time and the inclination - rent .... but remember that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and it's a long way for little return unless you like big butts and birthday suits ! Me ? I'd go to Lahaina instead. Just sayin
