- miscalanePhiladelphia, Pennsylvania818 contributionsFun, interesting, lots to see!We took the free guided hangar tour and would totally recommend. We received a ton of info we wouldn’t have picked up on a self guided tour. I’d suggest scheduling your visit around the tour. There is also a guided tour of the aircraft in the parking lot every other week (not when we were there)so we did that self guided which was very manageable. Both the hangar and the airplane in the parking lot were great and presented in a high interest sort of way. The guide was excellent as well.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 August 2023

Although the hours of operation said it was open, it was closed for a graduation, which apparently takes place every Friday. Waste of time.

Fun and interesting place for elementary children on up. Seeing how airline travel has changed over the years is fascinating.

I really enjoyed the Delta museum. The history of the company was interesting. Be sure to tour the 747 that is outside the museum. It's amazing to see the stuff that you don't normally see - under the floor or in the ceiling.

The Delta Museum needs to decide if it wants to be a museum dedicated to one of the world's great airlines, or if it wants to be an event space.
We went to Atlanta specifically to experience plane spotting from the nearby Renaissance hotel and to visit this museum. When we booked things, the website had no indications that it wouldn't be open during our visit. But once we arrived. there was a special event going on over several days for Delta employees. That meant the entire museum was closed for the entirety of our time in Atlanta.
Given the website includes a calendar with many blackout dates for other events that will cause the museum to close, I can't imagine we're the only people this has ever happened to. We wanted to go. We wanted to support the museum. And we wanted to spend our dollars in the gift shop. But no such luck. I've wanted to go to this museum for years, and I thought I'd finally gotten my chance. But instead I left disappointed. I doubt I'll make the time to try and go back, lest another private event blocks visitors again.

After a pleasant experience with the entrance guard and ticket sales unfortunately the experience went down hill from there. The staff from there was unfriendly, unhelpful and when trying to enter an exhibit at 2:49 we were informed we were unable to enter because they were closing at 2pm. We could have easily finished in that amount of time. This is after having to to practically beg the gift shop attendant to check us out, we were interrupting her very loud but private phone conversation. Kids were very disappointed.

My husband and I stopped here this afternoon. We've been coming to Atlanta for years and this was the first time we had heard of or visited this museum. We enjoyed the exhibits, including the 747 that is outside and can be toured. The staff was super friendly from the main gate at Delta (wrong turn) to the ladies selling tickets and the other employees. At the ticket desk, they sent us to the 747 since it closes at 3, or at least when we visited. We got there a little after 2. We toured the rest of the museum. There's a plane to tour inside. Delta has done a great job on history. It was worth a couple of hours. Make sure you check for what's open before you go. It's on the website.

We were wowed! Initially, I thought this museum would be small, judging by the outside, but it had many displays and lots of educational hands on experiences!

I can't answer the restaurant questions, but I would allow a couple of hours. There's a lot to read and planes to visit.
How much does it cost to get in?

The Renaissance is the closest, with the Hilton being not too much further. Just check for hotels on the north side of the airport.

I am traveling to Atlanta and I have a layover of 20h. Is there something else to do near the airport? And how much does it cost the visit to the museum?
Tifster
Atlanta, GA160 contributions
The Delta Flight Museum costs $12.50 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $7 for youth. If you have Delta or military ID, then it's free. There's not much to do around the airport area, but the Porsche Experience is nearby, and you could always take Marta up to the Arts Center station to visit the High Museum of Art.

Interested in visiting during a long layover at ATL. How easy is it to get to the museum? How much time should I allow for a visit?

Very quick cab ride. 2 hrs is plenty of time. They even have a delta kiosk to reprint boarding passes if necessary. Security in ATL can be a bear so keep that in mind
