About
Margaret Mitchell's one and only novel, "Gone with the Wind," was born in an apartment in this turn-of-the-century Tudor Revival mansion. Now a museum on the National Register of Historic Places, the house offers visitors a tour that tells the story of the author, the Pulitzer Prize-winning book and the making of the movie.

We really enjoyed our tour. Our tour guide was entertaining. We did not know a lot about Margaret Mitchell, so it was interesting to learn about her life. The gift shop is definitely worth a look too.

Does not appear to be open. No signs on any doors. My wife loves Gone with the Wind. You can walk around outside. Home is pretty but no inside tour ee could find. Drive to Covington, Ga if you want a true mansion. 12 Oaks for Ashley Wilkes mansion.

My husband and I were able to visit the Margaret Mitchell House in January. We are fairly new to Atlanta and want to see all we can, the Margaret Mitchell House was on our list. We really enjoyed our tour. Our tour guide was entertaining and the group was just the right size. We did not know a lot about Margaret Mitchell, so it was interesting to learn about her life. The gift shop is defintiely worth a look too.

We were very excited to visit the Margaret Mitchell house, as her novel Gone with the Wind is an old favorite. However, the tour was a disaster! Our guide seemed to hate both Margaret Mitchell and her novel! He said bizarre things like 'Rhett Butler is Han Solo' (??) and then lectured us all as to why we shouldn't like Gone with the Wind. It was like Comic Book Guy was giving us this tour.
Why oh why is this the person who was hired to do these tours? How about someone who is informed and passionate about Mitchell and her novel?
I hope to come back in the future and get a real tour.

The husband didn't fancy going, but came along and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The house is just as it was when the book was written, and our tour guide was excellent, explaining the time period very well. In the gift shop she wouldn't let me buy a dvd because it wouldn't play in the UK. Very helpful!

Great visit. Not expensive. Give yourself time as lots to read and a quick video to watch. if you are a female or journalist this is quite the story. Steps involved so not for everyone.

My husband and I were in town for the weekend. Being a Georgia Native I have never been to teh House. It was worth going and seeing but not as much as I thought it would be. I would recommend doing a self guided tour. The guided tour is the same price but 2 hours. We were done in 45 minutes and took time to read everything. I would have liked to see more items but if you have seen or read Gone with the Wind you should give it a look.....

In the middle of the high rises and upscale apartments, this museum is a nice place to see what Atlanta used to be like. The guided tour by the docent, Margaret, was interesting and she was very nice. I felt underwhelmed as it is really just a tour of a few rooms making up Mitchel's apartment. The room about the movie didn't really have much to see. Overall, it was nice for a short visit, I only stayed about an hour.

The docents are friendly and very well-informed. Margaret Mitchell's life and her writing style were both unique, and this museum does a good job delineating how. This is a fun glimpse into an Atlanta of the past.

What an interesting place! We thought we’d go in, look around, then leave. When asked if we wanted a guided tour, we agreed...a very smart move, Margaret, our guide was so interesting and knowledgeable, we could have listened to her for hours. Margaret Mitchell’s upbringing, her education and all the factors that went into the writing of Gone with the Wind made one understand the background in which it was written. Not only can you walk through and learn about the author’s apartment, but the rest of the building houses photos, artifacts and posters of the movie, it’s stars and the premiere. All in all, it was a wonderful visit. Thank you, Margaret Mitchell and our guide, Margaret!
