Best Museum I have ever been to!!!
I have been to The Louvre, D’Orsay, British Museum, and many others around the planet. I must say this museum far exceeded my expectations!!!! The museum building itself is a work of art. I especially enjoyed that all exhibits weren’t cluttered on the walls or the floor areas. The variety of art was fantastic. Then in the Impressionist exhibition to see Degas’ Ballerina not glass enclosed!!!!! All for no fee. Even parking is validated so free!

One of the best art museums I have visited
Excellent museum- huge collection in a beautiful building. Free admission unless you visit special exhibitions. Easily takes two visits or more to see all of the art. Easily one of the very best art museums we have visited. Only critique is the Best cafe- really high prices for mediocre food.

    A Museum Bug's Delight
We had heard about this museum for years, but experiencing it was something else. Immense collection, beautifully displayed. In two visits we probably only covered 25% of the holdings. One fine work after another. A world -class museum.

A top notch museum - highly recommend.
We are a well-traveled couple who have visited museums throughout the world. We traveled to Richmond for an event a few days ago and had some free time. Spur of the moment, we decided to visit this museum for a few hours. We loved it! The exhibitions and collections are excellent, and the space is beautiful. Highly recommend! Could easily have spent several more hours here.

    Not To Be Missed
Wonderful museum. Diverse collections in an architecturally interesting facility. The displays were well laid out and kept your interest while walking from room to room. We enjoyed the Art Deco and Art Nouveau displays, the South Asian Indian sculptures, and especially the contemporary art. It's a huge museum, so leave plenty of time or visit often, and it's free!

"Amuse" Restaurant on the third floor of the VMFA is a gem not to be missed.
I went to the VMFA museum following a visit to the History Museum that was literally across a parking lot from the VMFA . Because my blood sugar was low and and he history museum had only had sandwiches I needed something more substantial. i was directed by the guard to "Amuse" on the 3rd floor where i found a hidden gem--that in my view was not only better than any other museum restaurant that I have eaten in; it was better than anywhere else I ate on my vacation. The staff was attentive and the swordfish I had was excellent. The museum has some interesting pieces; though I found some of the predestination too eclectic for my tastes. If you are in Richmond you should check out "Amuse"; and check out the art while you are there (admission to the museum is free).

    Massive Museum
I visited the museum in October 2023. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is a massive museum. I was very pressed for time so I just visited the East Asian Art section which had Chinese art and Japanese art. The cafe was very good as well including the sculptures / statues outside. I hope to return to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts next year and spend a lot more time there and explore the rest of the museum.

Put the Virginia Museum of Fine Art at the Top of Your List
It is well worth a visit. Surprisingly it was free. It is known for its Fabergé egg and other Russian decorative arts collection, but there is much more to see. The art is nicely displayed with thoughtful explanations nearby each piece.

    Museum well worth visiting
The museum has an impressive collection which includes Tiffany , Faberge, Asian art and Impressionism - among other collections. The museum is free and has a paid parking garage adjacent to the museum. The museum is laid out very well and does not seem crowded even though there were quite a lot of people there. Definitely worth a visit!

Spent four hours (including lunch) It was really worth it.
Top notch museum. Said it covers 6000 years in 50,000 objects. It does so beautifully. Art and object d' arte are well spaced for a good look-see and are well documented. The Fabrege collection is worth the visit, but there's more! Antiquities of fine quality. Well represented in art genres. Cafe has very good food and well made coffee with a variety of selections. Even wine is sold.

Really fine ‘fine’ arts museum. First visit since Covid. All the construction going on last visit is done leaving a breathtaking facade coming in. Great “Samurai” exhibit till Aug. 2024.
So-so cafe. Wife’s sandwich has just one leaf of lettuce and one onion ring.

This is one of my favorite places in Richmond. Not only the exhibits but also the cafe, restaurant, the outdoor area, and gift shop are a great way to spend the day.

This museum was such a welcome surprise! I couldn't believe the quality and variety of art - from Dali to hieroglyphics from BC era. It was free as well! I would absolutely visit again in the future.

VMFA is a jewel. The permanent collection is diverse and wonderful. And the special exhibits, often small yet very exciting. Something for everyone, in a most welcoming place. And free!
