La chiesa di San Giovanni Battista di Assemini è un monumento unico e di capitale importanza nell'ambito dell'architettura bizantina. Alla rilevanza delle forme architettoniche si unisce quella delle testimonianze epigrafiche in lingua greca custodite al suo interno, che mantengono la memoria del più antico giudice o re di Cagliari. L'edificio risale probabilmente al X secolo. La sua prima menzione documentaria è del 1108. La pianta è a croce inscritta in un quadrato di 10 m per lato, con abside a E. All'incrocio dei bracci, voltati a botte, quattro robusti pilastri sagomati a L reggono la cupola entro un tiburio. La facciata, alta circa 5 m, è sovrastata da un piccolo campanile a vela. Le murature sono in pietre calcaree, squadrate agli angoli e solo sbozzate in molti tratti dei muri perimetrali, mentre le volte sono realizzate con maggiore accuratezza.

Piccola chiesa nel centro storico alle spalle della piĂą grande chiesa da san Pietro... Strettamente collegate le due chiese rendono il centro storico motivo di visita e ammirazione...!

Sito Paleocristiano che racchiude tanti piccoli tesori al suo interno. Vista per caso una notte in occasione di una rassegna, è risultato un luogo molto suggestivo

La piccola chiesetta è un pezzo della storia di Assemini, che ogni cittadino non può non conoscere. Interessanti anche i reperti presenti all'interno ed i resti di origine bizantina. Bei ricordi :)

Chiesa bizantina risalente al 1107 ed al 1108 In buone condizioni di conservazione dopo un recente restauro, la chiesa non è perfettamente orientata secondo gli usi liturgici, in quanto l'absidiola è rivolta a sud-est; quest'ultima, profonda quasi quanto la sua larghezza, esternamente è semicircolare con tetto a falda conica assai schiacciata. Assolutamente da visitare.

E' una piccola chiesetta, molto rustica ma carina. Ha una struttura molto particolare, anche l'interno e da ammirare.

La chiesa di San Giovanni Battista di Assemini è forse uno di quei monumenti storici che nel campidano non si possono perdere, in quanto è testimonianza della cultura bizantina nel territorio sardo. Una delle chiese piccole cupolate sarde. L'unica ad avere una pianta a croce greca inscritta. Da visitare, possibilmente anche all'interno.

A pochi chilometri da Cagliari, all'ingresso di Assemini, per un periodo famosa per le sue discoteche, troviamo questo esempio di architettura risalente al periodo bizantino. Non molto conosciuta... pertanto da valorizzare
