    Pretty and quiet spot
Not far from Skogafoss you will find this smaller, but very pretty Kvernufoss. From the nearby parking lot a trail will lead you to the waterfall in about 15 minutes. A flat and very easy little walk. But with wonderful views of the fall and the hills. Around sunset the colours were magical. A very very pretty spot and with few visitors only. At least at the time we've visited. Kvernufoss falls around 30 meters. Not the biggest drop and not carrying that much water. But it's a pretty sight and you can go close and if you want even around the fall. The gorge and Kvernufoss are just a very pretty sights. And if you want peace and quiet, then this is for you. We enjoyed it very much. If you visit Skogafoss, make sure to also make a stop here. It's really just around the corner.

One of my (two) favourite waterfalls
One of my favourite waterfalls in Iceland (that we visited in the golden circe and south coast). Oh the geology, just wow, the oranges, blacks, tinkled with snow. Made me tingle inside, I simply was in geological heaven! And being able to go behind the waterfall in march was awesome, such power, such fun!

    Hidden falls
Everyone goes to Skogafoss, had I not read a fellow traveler’s digest, I wouldn’t know about it. There were no signs anywhere on the road either, only at the trail head. I guess that’s why this falls is so quiet, hence much more enjoyable. The trail head is located in the parking lot of the Skoga Museum. The trail head is only about ten minutes and easy to walk.

A little hike to find this one
Behind the Skogar museum, there is an entrance to a pathway that leads to this waterfall. It's a little bit of a hike, but pleasant as you stroll through fields and a gorge, with sheep patrolling the hills on either side. Most people go to the other, more popular waterfalls nearby that are close to the road. But this is a nice easy walk, and the falls are very scenic. We're glad that we made the time to explore this one.

Short walk behind the museum, path is developed and easy for all abilities
"Hidden" waterfall behind the Skogar museum. Can park at the museum if you are going there, or you can pay for parking a few meters away from museum parking. The falls are not "hidden" as there are plenty of signs and the path is developed the entire way (except behind the falls). It is a short little walk, very little incline and easy for all ability levels. Would recommend - although not the biggest falls it is super easy to park, access and is a pretty walk behind the museum to the site.

    Beautiful up close waterfall
This is a big beautiful waterfall that is not as crowded as some of the others we visited. It's a short walk from the parking lot and you get to get really up close and personal with it including seeing it from behind. I would consider this a must see. Rain gear is nice but not required.

From Skogafoss, go back to the road of Skogar and turn left. The road will dead end at some hotels. Turn right at the road that is right before the dead end. This will take you to a parking lot.

The beginning of the walk is most flat. Although, you will need to use the small ladder to get over the fence that keep the sheep in. It's not very high, maybe 3 steps up on the ladder and then you go over on the other side. Kids should be able to do it with no problem. However, it is not accessible if you cannot go up and down the ladder.

It's a pleasant walk to the waterfall, maybe 20-30 minutes. Along the way, we saw a group of people picnicking in the grass. So idyllic.

I recommend to bring your waterproof shoes, pants, and jacket on this hike as you can walk around the waterfall and get some great pictures from behind it, but you will get very wet.

While there were people on the hike and at the waterfall, it was much less crowded that Skogafoss.

This waterfall is right next to the Skogar museum, and close to Skogafoss.

The waterfall path is signposted from the bottom corner of the car park (near the technical museum) and is an undulating gravel path; takes about 15 minutes to walk.

The waterfall itself is beautiful, despite being less spectacular than Skogafoss. A great bonus is it’s easy to walk behind the waterfall and we were fortunate to see rainbows across the falls when we visited; it’s also relatively quiet with very few people, especially compared with the crowds at Skogafoss!

The Skogar museum is also worth a look, especially the open air part where there are several old buildings recreated.

This waterfall is a must see and is much better than any of the closeby waterfalls. You have to hike around 10 minutes to the waterfall, but it is very easy hike and not steep. You can also access quite easily behind the waterfall and get awesome pictures from there. It is much quieter here than in Skogafoss and other around. The waterfall is hidden in a small valley and you cannot see it from the raod.

A path that winds at the bottom of a canyon, between green meadows and high rock walls, then suddenly the perspective widens and ...wow! From a crescent ridge the waterfall flows into the basin below to form a small stream and the glance is simply wonderful. It feels like you've ended up in a fantasy universe and the absence of construction in sight makes this feeling even more intense.
The trail starts near the Skògar Museum - an interesting window into Iceland's ethnic history - and the Freya Cafè - a great dining spot as well as a transport and communications museum - and is well-marked and easy to walk, while the route leading behind the waterfall is slightly more challenging for slope and slipperiness, but for those who feel like it is a magical and highly recommended experience.
Definitely one of the most exciting Icelandic waterfalls!

Kvernufoss is a truly “unbidden” gem these days in Iceland. It’s not as busy as the likes of Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss as the big tour busses don’t stop there and they don’t tend to give you enough time at Skogafoss to get round here either.

Located just a stones throw from Skogafoss, to the right of the Skogar museum and tucked away into a canyon, this beautiful waterfall is easily accessible via a well laid path down a 5-10 minute walk from the car park.

The car park is a paid for job so be sure to get that sorted to avoid a fine! There is a short walk through a gated field to the start of the canyon, be sure to close the gate to avoid the sheep getting out!

Once alongside the river, following the path into the lush green canyon slowly reveals the beauty that is Kvernufoss. With the stunning ability to get behind it much like Seljalandsfoss it is a real spectacle and one that will feel much more personal without the hoards of other visitors queuing up to take photos.

We decided to pop back here at around 7am and had the whole place to ourselves! Perfect for photos but also to stand at the base of the waterfall, feel the spray on your face and quite literally soak up the moment!

Yes if you get close you are going to get wet! Will you regret it, absolutely not! It’s a beautiful experience and one I will visit every time I go back to Iceland!

Shoes like everywhere in Iceland should be sensible. For the most part it is a well laid path but if you then want to walk to the base or up behind it then it can get muddy and wet and you’ll want decent support and grip!

This waterfall is a few minutes of walk away from the parking area and not really visible from the Road 1. There is another waterfall in the area which has signs to it, this one does not have as many. But it is worth it. So you walk for a few minutes into nature and then boom, this beautiful waterfall it there. We were there in the winter and were the only people there. You can walk behind it, but in winter this is icy and quite risky.

Although the Kvernufoss waterfall is located very close to Skogar, it is little visited by most tourists. This "juvel" has free access, so when you make your plans to visit Skogafoss include Kvernufoss. Remember to wear clothes and shoes suitable for trekking and if possible waterproof. It's worth meeting her.
