About
My name is Erla, Im the owner of Fjallhalla Adventurers, which I founded in 2014, decided to do the extra drivers licence in 2015 and finally claim the hiking guide licence the spring of 2017. Why the name Fjallhalla Adventurers? Fjallhalla means in Icelandic: fjall=mountain, halla= women's name and elevation. Halla and Fjalla-Eyvindur were outlaws, famous characters in Icelandic history that survived living in nature, those characters were definitely an inspiration when finding a proper name for the company. We wanted it to be different, more authentic. Adventurers, cause well, we enjoy the trips and being in Icelandic nature just as much as you do. We love our jobs. Do what you love, and love what you do right?

Right from the very first communication Fjallhalla was responsive and kind and able to get everything we needed within a very short timeline. I was planning a team offsite and we had to adjust our agenda many times and had not been able to confirm a team outing.
They were communicative, helpful and honest with what they were able to do.
When the evening came for our northern lights tour we had arranged for pick up at 21:30 and the sun had not even set. Olaf, our guide, offered to take us to our hotel which was in the Golden Circle area. There my team changed into warmer clothes and enjoyed a few cocktails. He kindly waited in the parking lot with hot cocoa blankets and delicious Icelandic cookies. At 23:00 we headed out to the van, and the guide was very honest that the probability had decreased and we may not be able to see anything that evening. We decdied since we were up anyways it was worth a shot.
He was very persistent stopping in locations (I got to pet an Icelandic Horse!) where we got an amazing view of the most stars i have ever seen.
Keeping an eye on the horizon and driving us the Kerid Crater where he proudly got to announce "We have lights!" They are very hard to see with the blind eye but we began to take some long exposure photos and dancing in front of our eyes was an amazing, once in a lifetime show.
Everyone returned invigorated and excited for the next day. Thank you so much

I 100% recommend Fjallhalla Adventures. The guides have great knowledge of the surroundings of the hikes, give good tips on what to wear and how to equip oneself during the trips, are very patient and caring for ones safety and well being. I most certainly will be going on a trip with them again.

The guides of Fjallhalla did an excellent job every time (this was a hiking group that went on 12 trips from September to December).
They were very professional and communicated regarding the weather forecast in advance, guided when asked about equipment, were full of wisdome and fun facts related to the mountains and last but not least ensured everyones safety on the trips.
For me it was great to have a schedule of many trips to look forward to and getting to know the fellow hikers and guides (Vífill is a favorite). I reccomend joining a group like this if you don't know where to start your hiking journey or want some company on your hikes. Now I feel I have the skills and confidence to go hiking (known trails) without a professional guide.
I will defenately use the service of Fjallhalla again and I am aiming for one of their longer hiking tours next summer.

TL;DR: The best touring company we've ever used for all of our travels: Our 7 day family outdoor sightseeing, hiking holiday was met with major weather challenges and dangerous snow storms. All of our plans had to be changed and day tours canceled for safety. Villif and his team not only stayed in touch but they were concerned that we see the country as we hoped, safely and find ways to work with this situation the best we could. He would visit hiking trails early in the morning, late in the evening and watch road conditions to find safe ways to try some hiking near the city. We took one snow covered hike up Ulfarsfell and it was just beautiful to see the city below. He made time the following day to fit us into the schedule and take us on the most magnificent hike I've ever taken. With his careful safety watch, we navigated the roads to Fagradalsfjall Volcano area and took a 12K hike to explore the recent lava fields. The steam rising off the fields covered in snow was just spectacular. It lives in my memories forever. As a lifelong resident, Villif's knowledge about Iceland, the geothermal structure, glaciers, sustainability and more was so interesting as we drove and hiked. His dedication and passion for sharing his love for his home country was felt by our family. Fjallhalla saved our trip by being willing to find alternatives and we could not be more grateful and filled with awe with what we did while there. The pictures tell the story. We love Iceland because of this care and genuine kindness and we will be back!

Wow! My guided hike with Fjallhalla Adventurers was one of the most amazing things I did while visiting Iceland. I booked a private trip to see the Fagradalsfjall volcano. Everything was perfect! The hike, the guide, learning about the history of Iceland and the eruption of the volcano, the immense lava fields and craters were all part of a spectacular day. I highly recommend Fjallhalla Adventurers for everyone wanting to experience the beauty of Iceland.

We took the day hike to Fimmvörduhals.
The communication via mail with Erla the founder was always fast and very helpful.
The hike itself was challenging but doable for experienced hikers.
Time flies by because of the stunning views, the changing scenery, just a dream.
The elevation gain is not too harsh and spread out over a few hours.
Our guide was looking out for the group, knew what he was doing and kept a good pace. He gave us good information about the trail but also about other things to do in the area. We could not have hoped for a better guide!
The transfer back is an adventure itself and was included and organized by Erla

I went hiking to Grænihryggur with Fjallhalla Adventurers.
The hike was quite demanding: steep and slippery paths, a lot of snow... and we had to cross the river up to 8 times! But the guide was very professional : he made everyone feel comfortable and safe, and took great care to explain us how to cross a river.
Just a piece of advice here : If you have to cross a river during a hike, make sure you have some kind of shorts so that your trousers remain dry, and more importantly a second pair of shoes and socks for the water. Don't go with flip flops and a nice smile on your face, just as I did... that won't do the trick !
The views were amazing, with very different landscapes along the way.
Erla, with whom I was in contact to arrange the hike, was always very nice and efficient. When there was a risk that another hike I had booked might be cancelled, she wrote to me a week before the hike to tell me, so that I could arrange a plan B. I really did appreciate that, especially since another agency I had been on contact with to hike in the North told me only 10 minutes before the hike that it had been canceled.
I hope I come back to Iceland one day, and if I do, I will definitely contact them again to hike.
I definitely recommend this agency: they might be the best in Iceland!

We chose Fjallhalla for the Fimm trek based on reviews and interaction with Erla.
Unfortunately one of our party had an issue before the walk and we had to cancel.
Erla was professional, courteous and helpful and arranged a full refund immediately.
I was very impressed with all my dealings with Erla and Fjallhalla and would not hesitate to book with them.
Personally I deeply regret that we didn't get to do this

Upon extensive research I kept on hearing about Erla.. from travel books and from some high end hotels in Iceland. We emailed each other a few times and she took the time to Zoom with me to talk about what we were hoping to do for hikes. She is super sweet and really cares about her work and her clients. We are still in the planning stages of our trip and hoping to meet her in person on our trip.

I had an amazing hiking experience in really bad weather conditions on 13 of June 2022 whilst staying at Ion Adventure Hotel Nesjavellir.
A company called Fjallhalla sent me a very capable and skilled guide Vìfill Traustason who got me to the highest peak of Hengill mountain, Vörou-Skeggi (803 m). I had never traversed snow before and by the end of the hike I could go up and down as well as handle the the slopes whilst crossing snow. None of this would have been possible if Vìfill had not chosen the correct routes and transferred his skills so successfully.
The wind, rain and poor visibility added to the spirit of the adventure and added depth. I felt very safe in the knowledge that my guide was constantly monitoring the weather conditions and would not put me in danger.
